Went to grocery and liquor store to pick up stuff for making a birthday present for my father (who'll be visiting in a couple of weeks, and who has his birthday in a couple of weeks), also for making something for
brooksmoses's brother, given that I'll be getting out there just before his birthday.
I really need to dig up the URLs to the spice dealers online if I'm going to be doing this sort of thing regularly. Bwaah. (Especially since they might have fenugreek, and the oil I'm pondering making needs some of that.)
Going to Trader Joe's is dangerous. Though they didn't have chicken gyoza today. They have nifty pot plants. Last time we were there I got a Cabernet grapevine. This time I got a jasmine plant.
Jasmine! How cool is that?

And yah, he's a python -- royal python, and that photo was taken when he was about six months old. He's nearly two now. At some point I intend to update the snakie picture with a larger snakie. :)

Folks could rent out the museum for parties and hire museum staff for entertainment. Every once in a while I'd do the ol' Rent-A-Naturalist routine... for $100 bucks I'd put on the silly kacki safari uniform, grab an owl or a snake or something, and circulate at a coctail party for a couple hours. A few times I took a Burmese... wrapped it around my waist and waded out into the crowd. It was heavy, but well worth it for the reactions from startled Ladies and Gents. ;-)
I saw a photo of you and your cat. How do kitty and snakie get along?
-Briar, with both herpetologico and felineous envy

Re: snakie
My cat -- the orange -- alternates between forgetting the snake's in there and hysterical rounds of, "Mommy! Mommy! There's a snake in there! Do something about it! Do something about it!" He's much more likely to try to, uh, help around feeding times.
Mostly the snake ignores both of them, even when he's out of the viv.
The Burms get huge, don't they? There are a couple adults at the place I got Kunda. They're handsome fellows, but I think the royals/balls are prettier. ;)
I'm definitely polyanimalous too. :} I'm planning on getting a parrot in a year or two. And maybe a turtle.

We had two cats who (for allergy reasons) lived on the third floor, and two dogs who (for said reasons) lived on the first floor (we two-footeds slept in the dark, cramped back room on the second floor. It was absurd, all of it). Every time Nikki The Impaired Doberman heard the cats running around up thar, she'd burst into frantic peals of "Mommy! Mommy! There's a cat up there! Do something about it! Do something about it!" This went on for three years, mind you...

Yes, I imagine he would...
Mice? Live?

Chauvenist.

If you play your cards right, I'll send you a tape of the song "Turtles and Snakes"
::bursts into song::
Turtles and snakes
Turtles and snakes
I'm going to learn to like them
No matter how long it takes
(verse about turtles)
(verse about snakes)
(rousing chorus)
teinedreugan says I can't have any frogs. ;)
Chauvenist.
:again, shamelessly burs

*replying to second comment* I'm not much of a dog person, I think precisely because of the Unsubtle Thing.

Oooh, nasty, got cut off!
Oh, tadpoles have such tiny tails
they breathe through gills
and they are so frail
(clap clap)
Frogs jump from here to there,
they have no gills and they have no tail...
Iiiiiiit's
born in the water
and moves to the land
lays eggs in a jelly-like mass
(clap clap)
It has no covering on it's skin
It's an amphibian.
(verse about toads)
(verse about salamanders)

He wants to know when he started living in the zoo --
When he took you on, apparantly!
when he was a kid, the family notion of "pet" was "hermit crab" or "guinea pig".
If you play your cards right, I'll send you a tape of my guinea pig imitation...
We always had critters when I was growing up: cat, frogs, fish, guinea pigs, gerbils (hamsters?? I forget), parakeets. The frogs got out one night; one ended up in my mother's bedroom. Dad was away on business. That was the end of the frogs... (Don't tell teinedreugan.)
Now I just have a dog. She's sweet... but...
I don't know.
Unsubtle.
A labrador retriever lying on your chest just doesn't have quite the appeal of a warm purring cat lying on your chest.
Ya know what I'm sayin'?
- Briar, brushing off the dog hair, again.
