[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan and I are shifting residences this evening.

The new house hasn't got a working phone line at the moment for reasons we have yet to determine. This means no internet until we get it fixed, so I will be only erratically present until the situation is corrected depending on when I am hanging out places with working network.

Today we went to the doctor and got me antibiotics (well, prescription for; the actual antibiotics were gotten at Stop & Shop), moved some miscellaneous personal items into the house, took apart the silly doorframe and wall that were keeping us from getting the boxspring upstairs, got the boxspring upstairs, got miscellaneous shelving units more or less in place and ready to put stuff in, replaced the showerhead in the upstairs bathroom, put in the shower curtain in the downstairs bathroom, had the locks replaced, found some of the hardware to put the bed back together, got the heater on in the lily tank, read books sitting on the couch, and set up the house shrine.

More moving of stuff to go, and then the packing up of the cats.

Heh. I didn't know there was a song about the time my brother and I couldn't get the Christmas tree into the house....

Short(ish) version of the story: The house in question has a 14-foot cathedral ceiling in the main room, which is where the tree goes. My brother is of the opinion that anything smaller than about ten feet or so doesn't really look right. So, the usual process is that we go out to the tree farm, look around, come to the conclusion that we're probably going to have to make do with a smaller one than usual, get a good-looking 8-9 foot one, and bring it home (only to find out that once we get it inside it's at least as big as the one from last year). This particular year, the one we got was, while a big short, also a little fatter than usual. So, we got it home, and tried to pull it through the door, and it absolutely wouldn't go -- the lower branches were just too thick and strong to bend. We hmphed at it, and tugged on it, and went inside to think on things, and one of us made a joke to our mother about needing to take the chainsaw to the doorframe. She had the thoroughly baffling response of taking the idea seriously and commented that it was awkward having a single door there and she'd wanted a double door for a while. And so, after we made quite certain that she was indeed serious about this, we did in fact take out the relevant portions of wall (though probably not literally with a chainsaw), and brought the tree in, and rearranged the furniture to make room for it, and discovered that it was nearly as tall as the one from the previous year after all.
