This one's been rattling around my friendslist, and I'll play with it. (I haven't done most of the 'ask me a question' type memes because I'm mmmmmassively weird about questions.)
I have a list of LJ interests somewhere south of my mood pie. I hereby invite questions about interests that y'all know nothing about but think sound intriguing or interests y'all do know something about and can't figure out why the hell I have listed. (Alternately, there's asking about one of my LJ-communities.)

What are cladistics and semasiology?

Cladistics is a biological term to describe the relationships between various species. A "clade" is, if I'm remembering it right, what you get if you consider two organisims and trace back to their nearest common ancestor, with everything in between. Basically, it's a way of looking at taxonomy that's trying to consider evolution and the descendants of common ancestors in terms of the image of the evolutionary tree with all its forks.
Semasiology is the study of the development of meaning and the changes in meanings of words; see also 'semantics'. ;)

Hmm...wot's "sri syadasti"?

The long answer (quoted from The Principia Discordia):
Sri Syadasti Syadavaktavya Syadasti Syannasti Syadasti Cavaktavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavayavyasca Syadasti Syannasti Syadavaktavyasca commonly called just Sri Syadasti
His name is Saskrit, and means: All affirmations are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense. He is an Indian Pundit and Prince, born of the Peyotl Tribe, son of Gentle Chief Sun Flower Seed and the squaw Merry Jane. Patron to psychedelic type Discordians. Patron of The Season of Confusion. Holy-day: May 31. NOTE: Sri Syadasti should not be confused with Blessed St. Gulik the Stoned, who is not the same person but is the same apostle.
I tend to cite his name a lot, though often in shorthand. (Because the whole thing even in translation takes a while to rattle off!) These days he reminds me of how the answer to so many either-or questions in Kemeticism is "Yes".

And thus do I return to semasiology, I see.
And that should be 'Sanskrit', but I can't type.

So how did you get interested in these two things?

I would suspect that where there's wanking there are going to be friggin' loons, no matter what the subject is, really. I also had a go 'round with My Favoritest Person On Livejournal recently.

Ergh.
I could probably work up a good rant in there if I wanted.

also kyphi?
From:

Kyphi is the Greek name, and thus the common name, of the Egyptian incense that they called 'kapet'. Kapet was the temple incense for the evening rituals. And it smells utterly wonderful; it's a tremendously complex combination of a number of scents. There are a half-dozen or so surviving recipes and a number of related ones. It's based on honey and raisins and wine, with a number of herbs, spices, and resins added.
