This one's been rattling around my friendslist, and I'll play with it. (I haven't done most of the 'ask me a question' type memes because I'm mmmmmassively weird about questions.)

I have a list of LJ interests somewhere south of my mood pie. I hereby invite questions about interests that y'all know nothing about but think sound intriguing or interests y'all do know something about and can't figure out why the hell I have listed. (Alternately, there's asking about one of my LJ-communities.)

Zeitgeist means "the spirit of the age". The central capturing essence of the time. I tend to look at it as a way of reading the rhythm of what's going on around me, the people and the way organisations change and modify themselves, the raw impulses that show and how people are reacting to them. It's sort of part Martian anthropology and part dance. Also, it's a neat-sounding word. ;)


Kyphi is the Greek name, and thus the common name, of the Egyptian incense that they called 'kapet'. Kapet was the temple incense for the evening rituals. And it smells utterly wonderful; it's a tremendously complex combination of a number of scents. There are a half-dozen or so surviving recipes and a number of related ones. It's based on honey and raisins and wine, with a number of herbs, spices, and resins added.
