I'm not working on what I thought I'd be working on right now; I was going to be working a bit on the Traveller's Guide but instead got waylaid by a short that's playing with mythology, archetypes, and all that fun stuff. As I'm currently in the process of piling up imagery and references until the weight of them crushes something into diamond and I can start writing, I may as well pile some notes into an entry rather than depend on my brain containing them in a tidy fashion.
Bridewort. (Little white sprigs.) Oak. Broom produces a yellow dye, scent tamed wild horses and dogs, edible. (Yellow flowers.) Dyer's greenweed.
Huh. Woad is the same dye chemical as indigo.
Beltaine fires at Uisneach. Rowan (magic, protection against malevolent beings, wizard's staves, prot v. lightning, witches, some fertility associations) and whitethorn? Oh, that's hawthorn. (Fey/otherworld, cut only when blooming, grow near sacred wells and used to hang healing charms.) Fire purification, maybe bonus juniper. 'Between the fires of Beltaine' also meaning situation difficult to escape.
Sacral kingship. Medb cognate with mead. Lady with the mead cup. Goddess of sovereignty: challenger, sometimes riddler, transformed into prize (hag to maiden). Associated with the colour blue (!). Sophia.
The monomyth is irritating, we shall not go there. Playing with the Fool's Journey may be more productive.
Nature of wilderness and cultivation. Initiation journey. Self-rule and recognition. Um, thingy.
None of this is giving me a first line.
