Man, asking the intarwebs what an appropriate level of weight gain is at this point in pregnancy is just opening the door to catastrophic madness.

Bathliness is next to godliness.

Fishie wishes to be upgraded to "badger". Ow.

Appropriate weight gain depends in large part on your body size and shape prior to pregnancy anyway. (As one data point, I gained ~30 lb total.) *Rate* of gain is more important, mostly b/c a rapid gain can be a sign of preeclampsia (and too slow can be a sign of other problems).

I gained 15 pounds in my first pregnancy and 18 in my second, but both of those were after initial 1st trimester weight loss, so the net was something like +8 and + 14. And I had two healthy 8-pound babies. My midwives said anything from 10-70 pounds was normal and okay.

If you feel like you're eating enough food, and you're getting plenty of calcium and protein, any amount you're gaining is probably the right amount.

Hey,

So far I have gained... 11 pounds. If you add the 5 pounds I lost in the first trimester, I have gained 16 pounds total at 32 weeks. However, I'm pretty curvaceous and have a nice reserve of fat on me for fending off the cold Russian winter ;)

My midwife doesn't weigh her clients. I only know this because I am tracking it for myself. She says that as long as your uterus is growing at the right rate as measured by fundal height, she doesn't worry about it. Her question is, "Is the baby getting nutrients?" Fundal height tells her that, and if your baby is getting nutrients, then anything else is the vagaries of genetics.

I gain weight easily (especially as I get older) and so have been pleasantly surprised by lack of gain. My belly is freakin' BIG though, so no worries on the nutrients front.

You are naturally quite thin, IIRC. It sounds to me like you are right on point in terms of "average" gain. Wow lilairen! You are "normal" in something!!! AIEEEE!

:)

That was loving teasing, BTW :)

In all seriousness, it sounds like you are right on point.

That sounds compleely reasonable. I gained I think 7 pounds with the Blackbird and 15 or so with the Owl. But, as you know, I'm built to survive subzero temperatures. :)

I'll make sure to never search the intarwebs for that sort of thing. I'm going to assume final baby: 3-4kg; placenta and stuff: more kg; if I'm feeling good: good.

Actually, I came by to show you this. I seem to remember you like pythons.

There's a part of me that wonders if it is a preparation for "Any future searches of the Intarwebs about anything child related should be done by typing on your computer with an 11 foot pole and having a trusted person with hip-boots wade through the crazy over-reactions to you."

(This is a topic insufficiently studied in the library literature, incidentally.)

I suspect to some extent it's true of most medical things - when I was researching the probably-ganglion-cyst on my wrist I came across some things that made me wish I'd gouged my eyes out with a spork *before* clicking "Google Search" - but I can imagine it'd be particularly so with those topics.

I'd say that unless you have another set of buttcheeks and two chins, you're doing pretty good.
