This thing.
First name: Kiya. Yes, I know that's not the legal name that people may know me by; it is, however, the name that I use socially these days, remember to answer to, and think of myself in. My therapist calls me Kiya; so does the dentist for that matter.
Age: Actually a grownup now, disconcertingly; thirty.
Location: Near Boston, in a swamp.
Occupation: Housewife. Freelance editor working for Immanion/Megalithica. Writer, in which field I am self-unemployed, but I have contributions in The Red Sox Fan Handbook, Manifesting Prosperity: A Wealth Magic Anthology, and an upcoming book of devotions to Sekhmet that will be put out by Asphodel Press. I also have a submission out to a proposed anthology titled Feminism for Freaks; my publication history is only getting weirder as time goes by. (Current projects fully my own are several novels and The Traveller's Guide to the Duat: Amenti on Two Deben a Week.) I'm working, albeit a bit half-assedly, on starting a small pottery business; watch this space. Kemetic neo-reconstructionist theologian, a job for which there is a shocking lack of demand.
Partner(s):
teinedreugan, my partner of fourteen years and husband of seven and a half.
arawen, my partner for a few months short of three years unless I've completely bollixed my chronology, who holds my collar. Beyond that we get increasingly esoteric; I refer to
oneironaut as a partner kind of haphazardly depending on whether or not I feel like arguing about the legitimacy of romantic friendships and/or am using the slightly more specialised meaning of "partner" that has reference to fucking. And thus off into madness in motion.
Kids: None as yet.
Pets: Two cats, siblings; Arthur (my cat) and Lennon (
teinedreugan's cat, though he'll accept
arawen as a substitute person sometimes, except when he's trying to make
teinedreugan jealous by spending time with
arawen, or throwing a snit because
teinedreugan is not in the house). A royal python, named Kundalini, called Kunda.
School: Broken by the International Baccalaureate. Dropped out of college. Paralegal certification. Dithering about going back to get a bachelor's so that I can someday get an M.Div.
Siblings: One brother, younger, who is one of Nature's Cool People. He has serious health issues that I occasionally angst about.
Parents: Two.
Wiseassery aside, my parents are divorced and my father remarried. My relationship with my mother is distant and too complex for a public post; my relationship with my father is reasonably close. I like his wife a lot.
Health: Mediocre as always. My hypothyroidism appears to be subclinical, but I am keeping a close eye on that sucker. Joints remain not great. Migraines have mostly vanished since I stopped working other people's hours. Depression is really quite annoying, and my current treatment techniques are not satisfying it, thus my appointment with a psychiatric nurse on Friday. I am generally well, in my typically creaky and catankerous fashion. There is a hole in my head because I had a wisdom tooth pulled eight hours ago.
3-5 Biggest Things Going On Right Now:
1) Depression treatment is hard. Also, not alleviatable by shopping. I'm not talking about it much, which would be why the whole 'wait, what, psychiatric nurse?' thing may be a surprise to people who aren't on a particular private filter. I am riding a pretty bad downturn at the moment.
2) We are slowly converting the yard to something that doesn't demand mowing. In addition to the garden boxes I put up last year, I have put in some raspberry bushes and built a spiral herb garden, which I intend to post pictures of when I have them.
3) I am continuing to study Feri, once again under the auspices of
yezida. I will be meeting
loveandpower at the New Hampshire Feri Camp to discuss the possibilities of also studying with her.
4) I am very busy in ways that don't produce much talking. Contact with the outside world is actively difficult and complex, and I am tremendously tired a lot of the time.
5) I may need to take some more of this nice Vicodin soon.
- You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Depression treatment is hard.
Ayup.
I'm finally starting to have a bit of luck on that front, myself, having finally bounced off the bottom of a 2-3-month downward spiral. The nice thing about hitting rock bottom is that it gives you something solid to stand on, at least. (He says, paraphrasing the commencement speech recently given by J.K Rowling.)
I hope that you have some luck, too.

Since all the middle-class luvvies have started lowing about how the nasty NCEA system we have in this country doesn't allow darling Jocasta's talents to shine the way they and their poncy, pricy private schools intended (sorry, I'll turn off the sarcasm now), I've been hearing a lot about how good the International Baccalaureate is. I'd be interested in hearing what you _didn't_ like about it, if you feel able to tell it.

I burned out sometime my junior year (next to last year of pre-university schooling), finished the last year and a half of studies, talked to my parents abbout taking a year off, was vaguely discouraged, and went dramatically mad my first year of college. My friend
A lot of IB students do just brilliantly in college. Including those who had my "smart kid doesn't need study habits" problem; the IB will knock that out of people right quick. I don't know how to judge who it might break, though in my case it was a combination of no study habits and seriously untreated psychological problems. I also don't know if there's anything peculiarly American about the mess, and whether other systems either have better transition or different stressors.
If you want to bounce questions off someone who's been through it, feel free to drop me an email. I'm not sure what of my experience would be useful upfront, but I'm happy to respond to queries/concerns.

(Do you still need a Morningstar buddy? I've asked two folks so far and got no response - will you be my third time lucky...?)
