Psychiatrists aren't that scary, really. And if yours seems to be, try to get another one. Seriously. My current one actually said at the first appointment "this is about finding out if I'm right for you" and just saying that made a difference to my opinion.
This is an exploratory mission; I also intend to see about consulting with one at the clinic I get my health care through, on principles of aggregated medical records.

I hope that at least it will have some good results, even if dealing with a psychiatrist isn't much fun.
