Me: Where did this mood come from?
[livejournal.com profile] arawen: ... Romania?
Me: Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song, a medley of extemporanea, and love is a thing that can never go wrong. And I am Marie! Of Romania.
[livejournal.com profile] arawen: ... what's that?
Me: Dorothy Parker, I think.

Is Romania on the brain of late...here and there? Speaking of Marie of Romania, her coronation throne and dress are here in Washington State...at a museum down on the Columbia River. It was built by a rather odd and monumentally rich man named Sam Hill to be his mansion-home. His wife hated the West and eventually he went back East....but I guess Marie visited Sam Hill, as did bright lights of the time like Isadora Duncan. When I visited there, I had mental flashes of some grand parties! Romania was on my mind because I read an unusual novel about Vlad Tepes...called "The Historian". It was a vampire novel from the remainder pile at Borders, I liked it for the odd little bits of history, but I think that is what killed the book's sales.
