I honestly never heard of these. Are they actual insects, or, toys.

They're a type of insect with something like a dozen regional names, most of which I don't know; perhaps you'd be familiar with 'pill bug'?

Roughly oval, smooth-carapaced grey bugs which, when touched, roll up into tiny tight spheres.
