Subject: Body
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I assume the latest rumour with the body washed up in the river was your
doing? If not then i apologise, and just forget about what i am about to say.
I thought i would have had more time to act to the Dark Mage but apparently
he moves much faster than i gave him credit for. (Which reminds me, how is it
possible that the girl went missing on August 18th even though RL that was
only two days ago? and now it is the middle of December). My character will
head straight away to the scene of the body and investigate, looking for any
signs of magic, and using his medical skills to determine exactly what killed
him. If there are any signs whatsoever that it was the Dark Mage that killed
him, i will warn you i am going to go hunting after this Dark Mage, and
should this prove impossible then i will do a large and spectaular magic
effect designed to draw the mage to me. However foolish such an action migh
appear, my character can not with good conceneiss allow this abomination to
continue. Anyway, i guess you would like to RP all of this but i thought i
would give you the heads-up. Of course, if you would prefer to just send me a
+mail with some information, on what i uncover during my invesigation of the
body i will be greateful. However that is fairly unlikley and failing that, i
look forward to seeing you soon, and putting this evil beast in the ground
once and for all. Thanks again. Ali

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You manage to get to where the body is before the people decide what to do
with it, and can get some investigations in.

He was a big guy. It's hard to tell what condition his clothes were in before
he was dropped in the river; his outfit looks a little the worse for wear
afters. He had big boots, workman's hands, and a somewhat scraggly-looking
beard.

Cause of death is probably the fact that his throat was cut; you think his
wrists were slit before the throat was cut, but it's hard to tell; someone
may just have wanted to be really thorough on making sure this guy was dead.
You're not sure if he was dead before he was dumped in the river either, and
besides, the water washed away most of the blood.

Magically: You really wish you had the time sphere, because the guy's skin is
a bit shrunken, like it was a lot older than the rest of him. He looks maybe
thirty, but his cheeks have hollowed out in a way that doesn't look natural,
and can't have been how he looked when he was alive. Your magical scans of
the guy pick up the dissolving remnants of a magical aura on him: a sick,
twisted and above all else, familiar feeling: apparently someone else wanted
to hunt down this guy as badly as you did, and knew where to find him.

You can detect other magical residues on him with prime, but you don't have
the spheres to get any more information from them. They could be the last
bits of quintessence from whatever node he had access to; whatever they are,
they're fading faster than the sense of the guy himself did.

Thank you for your detailed message, I will warn you that since there is
clearly linked with the Dark Mage, i intend to go hunting for him. I intended
to discuss how with Ash (since he is the Mage Admin) however if you would
like to hear my suggestions about how to get my hands on the guy (Or how i
intend i bring him to me) then just give me a buzz.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a little extra, for my past message. There was just a small amount of
your mail that i did not totally understand. As regards the sense of
similarity do you think you could clarify exactly what you meant by that? I
quote "apparently someone else wanted to hunt down this guy as badly as you
did, and knew where to find him". It is probably just me being dense, but i
would be grateful if you could explain if by "this guy" you are referring to
the body i am currently invesigating or the Dark Mage that i now wish to hunt
down or destory. Also i would just like to check the body to ensure their are
no signs that the man had been attacked by animals. Thanks again

You may now enter the body of the message. This is done by doing a '-' as many times as desired. Once you have completed entering the
message, simply enter a '--' (or +send). To see more options, type a '-'
with no text afterwards.
-Someone already killed the guy you're looking for. You're staring at his body
right now.
Text added.

Thanks for that clarification. Sorry, it was me being dense and after
re-reading your message it is now clear to me what you meant. However i am
unhappy that someone has taken care of what my character has come to think of
as his personal crusade, of course it is better that someone would take care
of this fiend before he gets a chance to strike again although i would very
much like to know who killed him and will research in the public libary and
in Dannon's personal libary (Which i am lucky enough to have access to) and
will compile a list of possible suspects, then consider the way that he was
killed with a knife and see if that leads me to any other possible
conclusions/

Ah, the joys of MUSH adminning. I'm rather glad that I don't do that anymore.

Indeed. Reading this just makes me glad I ditched, and that Amanda's a recluse so that she wouldn't have to deal with clueless people like this.

Frederick, we should get together and have tea and talk about how useless the younger generation is some decade or other, no? No rush, I'm not dying anytime soon if this is the quality of Mage who expects to defend Boston...

From pub chan, with a slight fib.

** Sourcerer ** Concord notes, on the basis of something Anna asked me about: there *is* no public library in Boston. Period. End of statement. There are personal libraries (most of which are fairly small and specialised), there might have been a few small subscription libraries (probably run by small groups of friends: I can't find any absolute documentation for them existing in this period at the moment, though in Boston) Harvard has a library, but it's mostly law and theology texts, and not accessible to the public.

(in other words, don't let him get away with claiming he's been 'researching in public libraries' because he's been told he can't.)

The earliest info I can find suggests the Boston Atheneum was the earliest subscription library in Boston, but I seem to remember my public library history and theory course mentioning some earlier than that. (I just don't know if they were in Boston, and I don't feel like rummaging under the couch for my class handouts to see if they mention it.)

[sarcasm] Hoooray, players that can't take a hint! [/sarcasm]

This is what leads to the catchphrase: "Rocks fall, everyone dies."

Players needs a new plot. And perhaps a Clue-by-Four.

Indeed. Had he actually played this one out, would he have had an ice cube's chance on Venus of figuring out that this was the guy he was looking for?

I just did a scene with this guy. The jury's in: he's a dumbass.

Well, either he's a dumbass or he's, as Darkhawk suggested, spectacularly good at playing Intelligence 2, Animal Ken 0. He just tried to use Mind to, in essence, domesticate my (Intelligence 4, to my considerable amusement) pre-Change Silent Strider cub, and was shocked, dismayed, and incredibly pushy when what resulted was a whole bunch of angry crows and a conspicuously absent jackal.

That was the first time I'd rolled anything with this character. It was amusing. Alastrann rolls his little three Arete, and I roll my little seven Perception+Alertness....

Y'know, I used to think I would miss MUSHing a lot more than I do. Thanks for reminding me why I don't. ^_^

Further adventures of the Idiot Mage.

Some background:

Alastrann has decided he must talk to the Natives (of course, he's also decided he must contact the werewolves. The man has a deathwish I tell you!) So he goes out, over a days journey on foot, and enters thier village. Gets ignored, Gets told point blank to go away, then gets told (when he says that people will die) "Maybe your people can learn to die with dignity then" and is then ignored again.

He's there for THREE DAYS in the dead of winter before the redcoat captain and squad show up to remove him. He argues and the redcoats are ready to load and fire on him befor ehe capitulates.

Cut to Boston, 2 days later. Alastrann is being taken to the Governor (and will likely be exiled) when the local Order of Reason honcho uses his mortal influence to take over the prisoner... James (the OOR guy) has Alastrann brought to his private library....

----------

Proctor House -- Library(#1015Rn)
Maybe fifteen by twenty feet this room is good-sized with wooden shelves
filled with books lining most of the walls. A wide fireplace sits oposite
the carefully polished door with tall windows standing to either side of
it. Two more windows pierce the wall, lookin out on the street, all of them
closed with thick, heavy drapes of subtle brocade fabric.
Several comfortable looking leather chairs sit scattered about the room,
each with a small table next to it and a lamp with a deep green glass
shade.
Obvious exits:
Out

Alastrann has arrived.

James sits in a chair as you are shown into the library. "Ah, Master
Battle, i might have known. Have a seat?" his voice is polite, cultured,
and that was a polite, cultured direct order.

Alastrann sits
Alastrann says, "Hello. It is a pleasure to meet you"

James hmms softly, steepling his fingers, "What am I going to do with you?
You use magic flagrantly, you violate the Kings Law, you attract attention
to Boston by factions I *do not* want attracted to this city."

Alastrann eye brow raises at the mention at magic. "Depends on your
definition of Flagrantly, and i was not aware that staying with the Natives
was against the Law"

James mms, "Nor did you ask it seems. There is an agreement, The Natives
are left alone, and the colonists are kept OUT of thier lands." he shrugs,
"so, I return to the original question, what are we to do with you?"

Alastrann shrugs "In my defence, i did save the life of a young girl; and
my actions with the Natives were done with the best of intentions at heart.
I informed several people of my choice to go and find the Natives and they
did not inform me of that law. Neither did the Natives, if they had told me
that my presence was violating the law then i would have left"#

You say, "I am not talking about THAT. Your trick on Queen street, Scanning
every other passer by were noticed by more than the person who confronted
you." he pauses, "As for the best of intentions, the Cabal and your own
religious group, or tradition or whatever you call yourselves, would tell
you that the paving stones on the high road to hell are forged from them.
Did the Natives tell you to leave?"

Alastrann says, "I scanned one person, that hardly constitutes every other
person in a crowded street. Yes the natives told me that i should leave,
however they also told me that every white man should die."

James shrugs, "Did they? I find that hard to believe, but then I also hear
you exagerate from time to time. I'm going to say this once, and once only.
Behave, or I'll insure the full weight of the order comes down on you. Do
you understand me?"

LOOK ALASTRANN
A tall striking young man of 23, he moves with amazing grace. Although his
looks can not be described as anything better than average, he has an inner
peace and beauty that draws others too him. Bright blue eyes, and blonde
hair with the merest hint of strawberry cut short out of his eyes. His
clothes are dark and working class, although something about the way he
carries himself indicates that he is used to better, and expects to wear
better sometime soon.
Carrying:
Beltknife

Alastrann subded, nods quietly

James nods, "Good. I trust I won't need to see you again. You may leave
now."

Alastrann says, "Thank you"

Alastrann has left
.
