Okay, here's the deal:

The guys who run the Hot Or Not site are trying to get people out to vote in the upcoming United States election. They're doing this by setting up a sweepstakes for people who commit to voting in said election, giving $100,000 to one person and whoever referred them. This is kinda cool, and I'm all for people getting out and voting. If you want to play (and are requisitely USonian), this link will sign you up.

While I'm pondering politics, I'm dithering about writing up my political beliefs in some detail and posting them here, just to . . . y'know, get it out of my system or something. I am trying to decide whether this is liable to be horribly stupid and get me into a lot of futile arguments that will just piss me and everyone else in the local universe off. Dither, dither. Any thoughts?

Also, Massachusetts local elections primary next Tuesday. Must be sure to go and vote for my local rep, who's one of the good guys. (Not only does he write back to email, he writes back to email strongly agreeing with me, in other words. ;) )

You could post with comments turned off, as a possibility.

I'm having problems with deciding who to vote for in the primary. Our current guy has slightly better policies on gay marriage (though both are opposed to the amendment). The new guy has better policies on abortion. (where better equals what I agree with) They have different ideas on education, but both want to fund it more, which I agree with. In general, they are both fairly liberal democrats and I don't know what to do...

It sounds as though both are good enough for you: what about their other attributes? Is one more likely to win the actual election than the other?

Over here in Waltham, are democratic candidates for the primary are both twinks to some degree - one of them opposes both abortion rights and same-sex marriage, the other one opposes abortion rights (slightly less) and is in favor of same-sex marriage, or at least against ammending the constitution.

My theory on who to vote for depends on the fact that the MA legislature is unlikely to be voting on abortion rights anytime soon, but they will be voting on same-sex marriage. If any year is a good one to be a one-issue voter, this is it.

Of course, Jill Stein (remember her? Green party candidate for governer?) is running for rep in my district too. If I'm still living here during the final election, she's getting my vote.

I know I'd like to hear your views- maybe you can limit it to just some friends who want to hear them. I promise I won't be a jerk!
