I have also had my misanthropic tendencies justified twice over, but I killfiled one of them on the basic principle that I wasn't interested in talking to someone who was repeatedly misinterpreting what I said and then demanding justification for it. And someone else who was inducing me to feel misanthropic (she stomped into a newsgroup, demanded to know why "you people" are still beating our wives, and was shocked and offended that this did not get her a patient response) may have gotten enough patient responses that she's gotten her head out of whatever orifice it was imbedded in.

I rather suspect the fellow I killfiled is not familiar with the cut direct. A shame, really.

Who were the "you people" in question? I'm trying to think of newsgroup topics which could be transmuted to wifebeating. BDSM? Or am I insufficiently able to think in silly ways?

The "you people" were the people who read the moderated Wicca newsgroup, and the wife-beating in question was raping the cultures of "Native people" (native to where?) for their own shallow ends.

Ah, thanks. I'm apparently dim enough in the morning to have taken "wifebeating" literally, instead of as in "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

I can see why the person in question would sour one's view of humanity. Yick.
