So through various conversations I was reminded of a character who I'm quite fond of, from the first novel I finished writing; he's the narrator of the second novel, presuming I ever write it. I started on it soon after finishing the first one, but realised that I just couldn't get a handle on his voice.

He's a very patient fellow, though, and polite, and waited for me to come back to him. So today I seem to have written 1218 words from his POV. I don't know what happens next; if we match the first book the next part will be third person elsewhere. Probably the Council, as I think about it. Harrum.

I think this is displacement activity from the WIP or something, but it seems to work, so I'm not going to argue about it too hard. Getting writing done: good.

I have also explained to [livejournal.com profile] oneironaut why "Thick as a Brick" is not acceptable music for commercials. And I need to remember to eat.

I rarely watch TV, but when I do, I sometimes notice the terribly inappropriate music that goes along with commercials.

I figure, the ad execs who choose this music without listening to the lyrics or the meaning of the song are probably the same people who figure that Springsteen's "Born In the USA" is a patriotic song. (Which it is, but not in the way they think it is.)

*laugh* Or the Chevy song "Like a Rock" which is actually about a car which is like a rock, ie, immobile.

Or, more to the point, those who don't recognize that the song "Like A Rock" is about lost youth and cynicism.

Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock

And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Twenty years now
Where'd they go?
twenty years
I don't know
sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone
.
