This is very late, because I have no organisation.

So, belatedly, onward. . . .

So we left the Baronies and started heading back towards the forest. It shouldn't be too far to find elves; we go into the forest and wait for the elves to find us.

We'd been going a bit and were pretty near the river; it was getting dark, but we spotted movement over on a hill. Adosar said Renn should make an arrow glow and shoot it up to where they were so we could see, but they ran away from it, which means they probably weren't halflings or something else friendly. Renn and Hethian went after them to be sure what they were, and we went up on the hill to see what was going on.

They got out of sight, though, even further than Adosar could see in the dark. There was shouting and eeping in the distance, and then she came back with a goblin-thing draped over Hethian's back. Which was sort of surprising. We sort of put him off to one side, because Renn said there were more of them coming, and there wasn't exactly time for asking questions.

There were maybe a dozen goblins coming from a sort of shadowy place up against the river, and two trolls. We got ready to fight them. Our friend from the city was just as quick against the troll as Adosar is, which is worth knowing.

When we were done fighting, Adosar and I went to check out where they'd come from in case there were more. Adosar left his friend to let Karas and Renn know if there was trouble. (Session Quote: He'll nibble on your ear. Gently. --Adosar) We didn't find anything much; I thought the camp had been there for maybe half a moon-cycle or so.

Karas wanted to try to get information out of the goblin. This was somewhat foiled by them not having a language in common. They went back and forth a lot, and Adosar helped a little with magic, but I don't think there was anything much to learn. The basic idea was that he was scared of the trolls, so he did what they said.

Karas convinced him that people were more scary than trolls, which sort of made it hard for them to talk afterwards. He wanted to send the goblin off back home to try to confuse things, but Adosar thought that was really silly. (Session Quote: So how about compromise. You let it go, and I'll kill it. --Adosar)

When we get home to the clans, I need to get Karas a puppy. Renn agrees.

From there we could see the forest.

"We can go where things make sense."
"I hope they make sense. I'm tired of feeling like I have two socks on the same foot."
"They're trees. How confusing can they be?"
"That sounds like famous last words to me."
      - Thiara, Renn, Thiara, Adosar

We got into the forest, and started walking. Renn didn't really seem any less confused. I think she was talking with Hethian about things, though. We'd gotten a good way in when someone asked us what we were doing there, in elvish. He flipped down out of a tree.

We explained what we were doing there, or Renn and Karas explained and I told the dwarves what was going on in Dwarvish because I could more or less follow the Elvish. And then a whole bunch of them came out of all over everywhere, and even Hethian was a bit surprised. (Renn said he played hide and seek with elves sometimes. I guess he didn't win that one.)

They said we could come with them, and they'd send word to their capital. So we went with them. It was a bit of a way, and mostly we didn't see the others. Then we were told to follow exactly where he went, and one of them went into a tight copse of trees, and just vanished.

I looked at it special. It was magic. I hadn't ever seen that sort before; I had to ask Adosar.

We all went through the magic wall or whatever it was, and we came out in a clearing. It looked like it was just a clearing at first, but there was a wall around the edges, sort of twined in among the trees, and it had people walking on it keeping guard. Our host said he'd send a message, and told us we could stay in their barracks. Renn and I took top bunks so the dwarves wouldn't have to.

I went out and sat down to talk to the wall. It was a remarkably friendly wall, different from the other walls I've talked to before. It wanted to know who I was and all, and we had a long chat. Renn went off to meditate, and Adosar went off to work on his magic.

Everyone in the fort was very busy, they were all doing things. Karas didn't have anyone to talk to, so he asked what he could do to help, and they gave him dishes to wash.

"A great hero should never forget how to wash dishes."
"Otherwise the great hero will wind up with food poisoning."
      - Renn, Adosar

There were one or two elves there who didn't look any older than I am. I'm not sure how old that means they are, though.

We got woken up early in the morning with someone banging on the bunks in the back room. They'd seen some goblins and trolls out in the woods, and they were going to go deal with them. We decided to come along, too, and help out, and after Karas talked with them a bit they decided they'd encourage the enemy to come to where we were and we'd help them fight. So they got up into lines and filed off, and we and our two escorts went out.

We hardly saw anyone the whole trip. We found a place in a sort of dip in the hills where they'd come to where we were, and one of our guides vanished off to tell them we were ready.

The trolls and goblins came smashing through the forest, not even trying to hide, and we fought. There were tangle-magics that Renn and I didn't make, and so we got to see how each other did. Adosar did magics I hadn't seen before, but since most of his magics would have gone through the fight onto the other side and maybe hurt someone, that's not so surprising.

Then we all marched back to the fort.

I talked to a different bit of the wall, and worked with Shae.

There was a great rushing of wind in the afternoon, and I looked up and saw a giant eagle coming in to land. (Shae hid.) Its rider got off, and it was the fellow who had come to give us the Queen's message on the plains. Renn had made a really funny face and went away, so he talked to Karas and me about coming to escort us to the capital. Adosar came over to see what was going on, and the new elf went in to have something to eat before we went. While we were talking to Adosar, I sent Shae to find Renn.

He found her, which is good; he's learning. He didn't come back to let me know he had, which means he's not learning enough. Or he's messing with me.

So I went and found Renn and told her that he was here to escort us, and it'd be four days, and we all decided what we were doing. Renn was feeling all awkward and confused, and she says that some day I'll be afflicted with boys too. Karas wasn't sure how to take that at all. (Session quote: "I'm bright red and I really don't know why." - Karas)

So when our guide was done with his meal, he sent his eagle friend off back home, because he wasn't going to walk that far. And I went and found Shae, who was hiding again. And we started off.

Renn only had one really bad tangly day. She was very confused.

We got to the capital, and it felt big, but also sort of comfortable, with all the buildings winding into and out of the trees. Everyone there had at least a fighting dagger, not just eating daggers, and lots of people had swords. They all had at least a little armour, too, like they were all up and ready to go on a cattle raid at a moment's notice, down to the littles.

We went in. They apologised to Hethian about the doors not really being his size; I guess he didn't mind so much, but he doesn't mind much most of the time. Karas was . . . Karas a lot, at the Queen.

So we met people, and they were friendly. And we decided to take some time to rest. Which meant that Adosar and I got to go exploring the city, because I was looking for mice for Shae to hunt. And so we looked at shops and things. And sometimes he could read the signs, which helped some. We didn't find any mice, though.

Renn found some druids to talk to, and so she spent a lot of time with them. And after we'd been there for a while, one day she went off and came back and she didn't look confused at all anymore. I guess she found her socks and everything. Adosar spent a lot of time making things. He made some bracers for me, for fighting with, so I've been practicing with them. I made some more potions for everyone against poisons. Karas spent his time in the court, mostly, trying to convince people to go talk to the humans in the Baronies. Maybe they'll listen.

Sometime soon we need to go into the Dark Road.

So I'm going to keep practicing.
