I was surprised to see "cabers" and while it seems contextually impossible it's the full scale version, I do hope that whatever it is proves well-conducted in practice.

We use 2x4s! With one cut to about five feet for the elementary school kids and full-sized ones for adults!

Also I may have put "cabers" explicitly on the list specifically to see if it would troll you.

I figured the cabers were more likely to be a successful troll than the modifications to the pony racetrack. (Which I am still pondering how to engineer.)

It is difficult to do full-scale Lughnasadh-appropriate festival games in a backyard, it's true. Even without considering that we cannot house ruminant quadrupeds on the property according to town regulations, we'd need twice the land.

In this case the modification of pony races is "it is a footrace, but you must balance a toy pony on your head throughout".

5' 2x4 for under-10 (or was it 11? I think we wanted roughly elementary-to-middle-school to be the swap over)
8' 2x4 for over-10
optional heavier cast, larger 8' cedar fence post, being ~3x the weight of the 2x4 gets the length of the smaller 2x4 added to throw distance)

you get 3 throws, they don't have to be sequential.

I am planning to work Friday afternoon/evening on:

* piñata harness - have done this repeatedly, I expect I have a better idea of what to do.
* piñata line - irritating, I want to have it up before Saturday. KJ can help maybe, but it's 80% a 1 person job hindered by weighted-line-throwing skill.
* set up pavilion - will require multiple people to do probably.
probably should include bringing out any additional table/chairs. Food seating, placing stuff tables, etc.
* pony track modification maybe? - can help wander about for this If desired. We also have orange cones we can use to mark out track if we want. I would do laps around the driveway, but people will be parked there.
* cabers - the cedar post and I think last year's stuff is stored under the woodshed. If it's too splintery I have a couple 2x4s in the garage. I can get it out.

Adding:
based on expected count, plan for a "people must get minimal X prizes, maximal Y prizes" for semi-fair distribution.
make sure there are enough prize bins to go around, and a sharpie to label them set aside.

Pavilion may want to wait for Saturday morning depending? Not sure. I have suggested that we game outside Sunday as well because Dan's brain is on fire again and he does better with outside when possible, so we may want to leave it up?
