... tonight we had our every-other-weekish Deliria game.
I am known to describe my character in this game as "catboy bard", not because he is a classic catboy (humanoid with ears, tail, and mannerisms), but because one of the side effects of his decision to seek transition care from fairies is that if he doesn't change shape on the regular he turns into a cat involuntarily for about half a day, which can be inconvenient if one is trying to do something else at the time. (He also has the personality of an amiable feral.)
He is at this point reasonably deft with the shapeshifting and also considers being able to turn into a cat very useful in his chosen lifestyle really. His backstory is not hugely relevant to the story I wish to relate, but to summarize it: Danny is a trans man and part-time cat who has had a weird, skittishly feral existence ever since he turned on, tuned in, and dropped out, who has accidentally developed a somewhat puzzling to him case of friends. (At some point, mind, fairy gifts being what they are, he's going to involuntarily turn into something other than a cat for a bit. It will take him a lot longer to get a handle on being that polyvalent than it did merely being catly, and not just because it'll take more XP to buy up the power that high. ;) )
In any case, catboy bard hangs out a lot in the backyard of one of the other PCs (Thomas), who discovered over our early adventures that he's the scion of a powerful fairy-descended mortal family and thus has a rather large house. This discovery involved the final decline and death of Thomas's grandmother, and Danny was in the band playing at the wake, which meant that when the other PCs were chatting with other locals he was not involved in the conversation - he just found himself rather diverted by this charismatic, storytelling fox knight.
(Now, I had no particular interaction with this NPC but Danny made it very clear that the fox knight was distracting him at the party, though he did at least hold up his end of responsibilities to the band.)
So, the party was going on a Dangerous Adventure, and given the stock party consists of a catboy bard, a bard/technerd dualclass, and an archivist looking to spec into wizard, none of us is really much use in a potential straight-up fight, so the locals said they'd send someone with us and she'd see us through. Possibly two people.
At which point, of course, I pinged the GM and said, "Soooo... things that would be hilarious: if the second backup NPC was Sir Ezra...."
So we get to the meetup to depart on our Dangerous Adventure, and there's the fox knight, and Danny is Very Flustered and trying not to show it. Unfortunately there was a bit about his cat side being very distracted by a swishy fluffy tail attached to his crush (he did not pounce) and the resulting conversational bits made it very clear that this mortal is Very Flusterable By Sir Ezra, who only took mild advantage of this.
And, of course, Danny in the company of Distracting Fox Knight wants to do things to look good and competent and thus spends the adventure turning into a cat to go scout dangerous situations and trying to be clever with the little bits of magic he's figured out so far. Scouting: successful. Magic: also successful. Squirting cursed fairy folk with purifying holy water: only rarely successful (even with magic boost), that's why we had the tanks with us in the first place.
The other NPC was perhaps more inclined to tease the fox knight about the mortal who's clearly crushing out on him before that mortal managed to keep her from hurting someone in a berserker rage with his halfassed grasp of bardic magic...
... anyway they're going for drinks sometime.
(Looking forward to the near inevitable point of Ezra flustering him so hard he turns into a fox and can't get unfoxed for a bit.)

(Also I imagine cute mortals who aren't a little weirded by animal shapeshifting may be thin on the ground even in the Mysterium. Not everyone's a furry. ;) But Danny is cheerfully devoted to not being a hypocrite.)
