I don't remember all the setup for this, of course, because dreams are like that; there was a lot of wandering around being semi-lost, having to get across a broad span of subway tracks in the open air when there was one (blue) train coming, and a bit of very video-game-logic parkour climbing up a shaft to the narrow passage that went to somewhere useful amidst all the You Can't Get Theah From Heah.
I had known that The City had something like a convention center, with buildings that blend into food courts and have large halls full of something, and getting through the narrow grassy passage that led out of the chimney that I got out to by briefly learning to walk up the air like it was stairs brought me into the vicinity of that sprawling mess. (Which is a different sprawling mess than The University Of The City, and I think closer to downtown given all the train tracks.)
In any case after wandering through a couple of halls in which people were toasting award nominees and some places where there were vendor booths (a bit more fine arts than the usual con fare but that's okay, the street fairs in The City are also like that, I think The City quite likes stained glass - in fact now I mention it when I got to talking to someone about the arts there there was some 'If I had the money to get everything beautiful' that had me taking a strong position on stained glass). Um. That was a sentence fragment in the end, it got away from me. After wandering through some bits I went looking for registration because obviously if The City had Worldcon I had a membership.
Which was fascinating because every time we thought we had a name badge for me it turned out that it was for someone else. Someone had a name very like the name I don't use! Someone had a name like mine only it was "Nicolj", apparently. And so on. We had not found my name badge by the time the dream faded out or I woke up or whatever happened, but we had helped a lot of people with my-name-adjacent names find theirs.

(Not an effective name badge decision, The City.)
