When I rub the cats in the dark, not only do I get flickerings of sparks before my hand, but afterwards sparkles in their fur.

Humidity? What humidity?

That's what we've got. I have yet to handle our staticky cat (there are two, and one of them doesn't get static) in a dark room, but I can feel the sparks whenever I pick him up.

Today's Suggested Science Experiment:

• Acquire chargeable cat.
  
• Place chargeable cat on lap.
  
• Rub cat such that charge is developed (I do this against the grain of the fur, and then with).
  
• See if you can discern any meaningful pattern to which of the four grounding contacts (otherwise known as "paws") equalises charge.
