I haven't been to a movie since Star Trek: Rebooted! (Not that I got to more than one every year and a half or so even pre-baby, because movies involve leaving the house.)

[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan and I saw Thor.

Branagh always brings such loving care and attention to his source material, doesn't he?

The source material in question is the comics, rather than the mythology -- and, yeah, actually he does treat the Marvel Comics source material with a great deal of respect.

The Norse mythology? Not so much, but that's not actually in the mix.

I liked Thor. I also didn't consider it to have even the remotest bearing on real mythology. That would be like watching Land Before Time to learn about dinosaurs.

Oh, well, I'm even more ignorant on those than I am on Norse mythology, and that's really saying something there.

I liked it as well. I was, in fact, delightedly surprised at this fact, as I didn't go in expecting much.

What an excellent summary you make in your last sentence!

I did like Loki a great deal, though. What can I say, lean intelligent brunettes beat out dim but ripped blondes in my opinion every time.

Thor is not precisely _dim_; it just takes a lot of work to get him to register something as a thinking problem, rather than a smiting problem.

I've come to regard the Marvel continuity of alien gods as ever bit as valid as Herr Wagner's wild misreadings that everyone thinks are a good redaction of the surviving heathen material.

I realized halfway through the movie that they'd set a movie that was related to Norse mythology in New Mexico. It was really hard not to laugh myself out of the theater.
