Really, the Very Hungry Caterpillar is kind of a genius take on the board book genre.

(What with the drilling holes through the pages and all.)

The version I had growing up was a paper book version, and, yes, with the holes in it. The board book version did come out VERY soon after the technology of board books was developed -- it is a natural fit.

It comes in LARGE with a plush caterpillar that fits through the pages. The large version has built-in carry-handles.

I think we've eaten two cardboard copies so far, as a household. We also have jigsaws and things, and a food-gathering game, all on the same theme. And once made a birthday cake to match...

I rather like the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Indeed. I also really liked "There's a MONSTER at the end of this book!" for similar reasons.
