F/X: lilairen thinks, "I should see how the snakie's doing."
lilairen turns to look at the snake tank.
Snake, sitting on top of the snake tank, tongueflicks.
lilairen: "Um."
Snake: *makes like a slightly cranky snakie who does not want to be dislodged*
lilairen opens the lid so there is empty space partially under the snake, nudges at him.

After a variety of nudges and such, snakie has returned to his safe, cat-free enclosure.

Time to tweak the latches, I think ....

So I read this out to Richard, and the following conversation ensued:
Richard: I presume the snake wasn't supposed to be out of the tank?
h-l: No, he was supposed to be in the tank away from the cats.
Richard: Does the snake eat cats?
h-l: Er, I think it's more fear of the other way round...
Richard: Don't be silly! Cats don't eat snakes, everyone knows that!

My old cat who passed West last year would slurp garter snakes like spaghetti.


The cats and snake are of relative size that each could do serious harm to and potentially kill the other.
