So I have this tub of blue hair dye that my hair is too dark to hold (and bleaching my hair is an experiment that Will Not Be Repeated).

And for a long, long time I have contemplated the tub of blue hair dye and the bright white portions of the cat. And resisted this urge.

Just now ... a blue pen leaked mightily. I spent a while going, 'Wait, why is the tip of my finger nail blue?' then moved my hand and realised I was covered in blue ink.

And the cat rolled and went to sleep on it.

I have a blue-spotted cat.

I'm trying to figure out if this means that dyeing him blue is redundant or required, now.

I'd say required, but what is the probability of the cat getting loose mid-process and dyeing your entire living environment blue?

While I'd be reluctant to use commercial hair dye on a cat, food coloring works just fine.

... I have a white cat. It is probably a bad thing that I know this about food coloring now.

Just be prepared for the whole "loss of dignity" thing, and potential repercussions.

Now I'm wondering how a medium grey tabby with liberal white patches might turn out.

SmurfCat would be beyond awesome, but I'd want to make sure that 1) the dye was safe for kitty, and 2) the house was safe FROM kitty.

IF dye cat-safe
AND IF dyed cat risks acceptable to homeowner
THEN dyeing cat required

In the meantime, I think a pic of your blue-spotted cat is required :)

If you need a different good home for the dye, I think I know of someone or someones who might be interested in it.

I've been wanting for you to meet them anyway...

I say "required" immediately, but then my cat has been known to flee when I've asked her innocently, "Hey, Boots, wanna adventure?"

I suppose I must concede checking that the dye is cat-safe is important. As to the house, though, I'd think if you can lure the cat into the bathroom and close the doors and windows, that'd fairly well limit the amount of damage that can be done.

Required. Really, go with "required" and post photos.

That didn't come across as TOO eager, did it?

Big Red: Psst... dye the cat!
Kiya: *resist*
Big Red: Dye the cat! C'mon, it'll be amusing!
Kiya: *resist*
Big Red: Fine, I'll dye the cat.

This is, of course, extrapolation/transference from the ways the Chaotic Canine sometimes enlivens my life, YMMV.
