I seem to have come out as being jackaled. In response to what really comes across to me as "boogety boogety death god so scary". Mmph. Getting a "spoken like a true Discordian" response to a fairly straightforward correction entertains me in a dark way, given that my current position on Discordian mental jujitsu is that I'm increasingly inclined to presume people actually mean what they say and react accordingly. With perhaps disingenuous incomprehension of the bugfuck insane bits as necessary.

Meanwhile, the stupid perpetual morphing weight/body-shape argument has surfaced in a different location, with random flingings of commentary in all kinds of entertaining directions. I have given up on it being useful, and have started talking about corsetry, which is at least much less annoying.

Etcetera.

[ Addendum: Also, words mean things even when they refer to sexuality! And augh, I appear to be agreeing with Steve Pope about something from what I can see in quoted material. ]

Hmm, I can imagine the possible gist of that jackal talk. "He's not scary, he's just doing his job. You want scary, try taking that journey without him!"

And Anubis is happy and fluffy compared to Hades, who also is just doing his job (unlike many in his pantheon), but he's allowed the work to make him rather dour.

I am almost always surprised when people say "that's a very Discordian comment." It's almost never when I think I'm expressing Discordian ideas, except when I'm overtly talking about Eris or bouncing penguins or dayglo electric bicycle sharpeners or something like that. Much more often, it's after I say something I thought was perfectly reasonable and obvious.

A lot of Discordianism is just taking things at face value as stated. Pretend they're telling the absolute, unvarnished truth and react to that... people will assume you're crazy. It lets you know how many polite fictions our society requires to keep functional. The Bokononist ideal of "live by the foma that make you brave and kind and healthy and happy" comes to mind... and it's a bit frightening to realize how many people don't think they're living by harmless untruths at all. (Sometimes more than a bit frightening. The people who think they are living in "reality" are some of the scariest.)

For fun, watch commercials, and try to sort out reactions to them as if they were speaking truths. Or at least as if they were making claims they expected to be believed.

tangent comment: I really need to write that article/rantish thing/whatever on how I connect Discordianism & Feri. Then again, maybe I'll just write a nice Nimüe/Eris femslash story instead.

sexual impurity = rape, abusive relationships, using sex for social status without regard to joy, sexual words and actions that clash badly, and so on.

drug abuse = badly rolled joints that waste half the contents, powders cut with rat poison or sugar, unclean needles, pills in porous containers left in toxins, beer cans left in the sun until they explode, and so on.

Erm. Yes, I get annoyed at people who say "sexual morals" when they mean "the morality of not having sex," and "drug misuse" when they mean "use of any drugs I dislike." Or "education" when they mean "attendance at a building that bestows certificates," or "religion" when they mean "Christianity and maybe Judaism and grumble grumble I suppose Islam sometimes as well."

For small useless entertainment, go into Waldenbooks occasionally, find the Satanic Bible, and move it to the "religion" bookshelf.

("Anubis is a bit severe" compared to what? Isis? Ra? *snort* Jesus, with his "I come with a sword" and "he who is not with me is against me" and "leave your family and follow me" and "heaven/rich man::needle's eye/camel?" Compared to Kwan Yin, I suppose, but aren't they all a bit severe when compared to Buddhas?)

"heaven/rich man::needle's eye/camel?"

The needle's eye in question is a specific rather narrow gate in Jerusalem rather than a physical needle; the metaphor is for difficulty rathr than inconceivable impossibility, so it's not as extreme as it looks out of context.

I'm aware of the Needle's Eye gate... it's still a case of Jesus stating "to follow my way, you must face privation and hardship and social strife and all sorts of other problems; this is not a roses-and-strawberries path."
