So it strikes me that I didn't actually write what I did last week down in any meaningful way, so this will serve as my "winterholidays in review" post, mostly in bullet points or something similarly vague.

  • Friday [livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan and I drove south, starting lateish; we made it from our place to his parents' place in about eight and a half hours, which my family always considered good time for Hyattsville to Stoughton. Not bad.
  • Saturday involved going to my Aunt Chris's place for familyness. We poked around the mall before heading out there because I wanted to see if I could find something for my cousins or some gloves to go with my hat.
Dad was amused by the hat, and said it suited me well. This was a theme.
Aunt Chris had had knee surgery a week before, and was still somewhat laid up; my cousins were doing the dinner prep, which mostly means Larissa was doing the dinner, as Nate had done his part and fled upstairs to watch the football game with my brother.
Dayamn, Nate's dreds are impressive. He's looking good.
Dinner was beautifully done, and Larissa did some spectacular sweet potatoes.
Nate won Christmas. Aunt Chris got a giant tin of Earl Grey.
My brother has become sort of scary, in a 'ruling the world in a dystopian manner' way.
I think this was the day I wound up going and talking with my father for a couple of hours about life and stress and stuff.
  • Sunday.
Sister-in-law showed up at [livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan's parents' place with her husband, the nephoo, and five of husband's (six?) other children. I hid in the corner in a semi-sociable way.
Odd moment of missing [livejournal.com profile] arawen rendered extremely funny by discovering that I had just been handed a teapot.
Eventual escape from in-laws to father's house, at which there were merely Dad's girlfriend's daughters to hide from. Many books exchanged.
Eventual escape from father's house to mother's house, following brother. We were drafted into making ornaments for the tree. Then more food, quite good. Very tired from trip and social exhaustion, fled early and hid in in-law's house.
  • Monday:
    Played Warcraft. Hid.
  • Tuesday:
Angsted all morning. Went to Charlottesville.
[livejournal.com profile] brooksmoses and [livejournal.com profile] suzimoses arrived, we went to a steak place for dinner. Spent dinner enjoying the pianist (aside from the sudden, horrifying diversion into a blended "Rockin' around the Christmas Tree"/"Jingle Bell Rock" thing; other highlights included a rendition of "Wild World" that broke us utterly), pondering racial issues, and being fretful.
Spent a while talking with [livejournal.com profile] suzimoses and mostly crying.
Started dreaded conversation with [livejournal.com profile] brooksmoses. I'm not sure how to talk about this at the moment, so I'm just going to say that I ended our partnership relationship, we're still friends, I don't really want to talk about it.
  • Wednesday:
Went puttering about in Charlottesville downtown. Wound up acquiring the chest that I needed for the base for my ancestor altar, a very nice bentwood cane, and a couple of books in a used bookstore (one on Ganesha, since I finished the book on Shiva).
Puttered about. Read usenet and the like.
Chinese food for dinner. Actually some of the best garlic chicken I've had in a while. Pipe smoke from nowhere discernable, which smelled quite nice, actually.
  • Thursday:
Some puttering. Lunch at Applebees (containing far too much food for my stomach, since I was still sick). Drive back to Dad's place.
    Crash at Dad's. Mostly hide.
  • Friday:
Up early, drive back to Boston.
Met [livejournal.com profile] jenett for dinner with miscellaneous other people. Wound up showing her the chest afterwards. Hat much approved of (I managed to keep the bow on the top of it long enough to show [livejournal.com profile] whispercricket, but lost it soon after).
Home. Cats. Warcraft (WSG was up for the first time since AB started, I think, or close to it, yay WSG).
  • Saturday:
    Woke up eventually. Puttering.
[livejournal.com profile] arawen and [livejournal.com profile] whispercricket came over, thus time with [livejournal.com profile] arawen, spent in predictable ways.
Party at [livejournal.com profile] keshwyn and [livejournal.com profile] jikharra's place, for which I got dressed up because I had been feeling like it. General response to same seemed positive. ;)
    Sleep.

this is me being stoicly sympathetic in your direction about things about which you do not wish to talk.

That's a lovely meta-statement for real things. Excellent means of expressing sentiment without going overboard.

Alas, I'm not terribly stoic, but I second the motion.

Glad you made it through! Happy New Year!

and *hugs*

Looking forward to hanging out next week. :)

For whatever it's worth, I'm not really sure how to talk about it either.

A friend of mine (well, more of my brother's, but he's my friend too) who lives in Charlottesville was complaining about his inability to find decent Chinese food there, so I pointed him at the restaurant we ate at. I did warn him about the fact that the chili symbols on the menu apparently mean "this dish would normally be hot if cooked in a less Americanized fashion; meanwhile, we may have even gone so far as to wave a chili pepper in its general direction".

And yay for the sleep at the end; you seemed to be distinctly lacking it.

I wave a tentacle at you in a sympathetic fashion.
