(Boston-area folks who want to get the heck out of town for the weekend sometime -- I know a good place to go. Friendly innkeeper with more helpfulness in a five-minute period than I can manage on a good day and a friendly black dog, beautiful land if you have my terrain fetishes, not too far, not too expensive.)

Don't recall the ones in the rooms as being all that good (I set up my life so I didn't need it), but the place does have a jacuzzi that they're willing to fire up if people ask (but he says he doesn't unless someone asks, because energy efficiency).

Always looking for a nice place to get away. Where is this?

This was the Gale River Motel. It's something like a two and a half hour drive from us (we're north of the city, so probably three from Boston proper) up 93. Surrounded by beautiful land, a river just across the street from it, a block from an antique store (small, but I bought an oil lamp), and a number of hiking trails and the like on the exits just south of it -- on the way home we stopped off at The Basin, which is part of a stunning set of waterfalls.

The guy who ran the place was great, friendly and exceedingly helpful, so I am happy to suggest that people looking for the sort of thing that's in that area wander his way. :)
