but a new icon -- some personal changes in general preference and potential long-term plans have required that I have a politics icon. This one neatly encompasses both my loose affiliation and my generalised desire to strangle the entire thing for extreme stupidity and go on holiday.

Mostly, it will be used for news-awareness postings like this one.

"The law is an ass" is (more or less) a Charles Dickens quote; the original seems to be "The law is a ass, a idiot", from Oliver Twist.

Now, to the content:

CBS and NBC refuse to air church advertisement from the UCC. Apparently on the basis that it's "too controversial" and anyway, the Executive branch has introduced that man-and-woman marriage amendment. (So, specifically, the gay content which I would have missed entirely had I not been aware ahead of time that it was there.) The ad, if you want to look at it, is linked off this UCC website. I didn't find the ad on its own, but it's in the 'Stillspeaking webcast' near the beginning.

Meanwhile, in Alabama, a lawmaker is attempting to ban from public schools and libraries any book that suggests that homosexuality is natural or has a positively portrayed gay character.

Okay. That's all the pounding my head against the wall of ass ass ass ass ass that I'm up to right now. I'm going to go get dressed so I can help [livejournal.com profile] jikharra copyedit his nice book now.

That CBS/NBC decision is really nasty. The Alabama thing... surely it's not likely to pass? Or is it?

This guy failed to get a gay marriage ban passed. In Alabama, in 2004. I'd like to think that bodes well for a similar outcome here.
