(Before I get into this, tell me, is it a sign I've been doing too much news research when I dream of having Kim Jong-Il wandering around my father's house with a lit stick of dynamite? I punched him in the kidneys, at least.)
We are currently and insistently Not Having Colds in this household. We were discussing this on the way to games last night, and I told
teinedreugan that he should have garlic and chicken soup. He suggested that I make something to that effect tonight, but asked me to please make it chicken cooked in broth instead of soup-soup, because he doesn't believe soup is food.
So we went to the grocery and got stuff, and I threw together something with an accumulation of a variety of generally good for you sorts of things. And I mentioned this in
keshwyn's presence, and she asked for the recipe, and
erispope wanted it too, so. Here is a basic writeup for Good For You Soup.
Started the garlic going in the oil while I peeled the skins off the onions and chopped them (I did just a basic cut in half then chop the halves so the resulting onion bits are all half-circle arcs). Put the onions in. Cooked a bit until the onions started going a little translucent, added chicken. Put a little lemon juice in. When the chicken wanted to be flipped, I flipped it, added the chicken stock and chopped mush'ms, and covered it. Pepper and more lemon juice to taste when chicken is cooked through.
It is good. But wanted a little salt, for my taste at least. Nice clear broth, which is part of the for-colds thing that I remember. Num.
Finishing mine now.
Addendum: And ginger! I forgot the ginger. Good for stomach, ginger. And I find it helps my sinuses. Ginger to taste, I put in three spoonfuls of shredded stuff 'cause I'm horrible about keeping it around fresh.

So we went to the grocery and got stuff, and I threw together something with an accumulation of a variety of generally good for you sorts of things. And I mentioned this in
- Olive oil (I forget why this is good for you, but I used it instead of butter)
Garlic (immune system booster) -- I used three cloves, roughly chopped, could probably do more.
Onions (I forget if they're good for you, but it wanted them) -- I didn't want to use a big onion because that would be too much, so I got three stewing onions and chopped those up
Chicken
Chicken broth (got a can at the grocery; should make stock sometime really)
Mushrooms (protein and good stuff) -- I use shiitake as my default
Lemon juice (vitamin C! it makes a happy sound!)
Pepper (general system upper, also needful for the right flavour)

But the soup sounds good. (And personally, I'm not a big fan of salty soup.)
