Okay. I've told myself I don't get to play any more Disgaea until I get more caught up on session summaries than I am. So there will be at least one today and probably one tomorrow, if not more. So this is questionable and a bit pathetic, motivation-wise. At least it's motivation. ;)

We spent a little time in Torvas'Era getting ready for Niador's expedition and being cranky at the local elders. They'd decided that instead of the whole city financing the trip, it would just have to be Niador's family, and so it was all going to be more difficult. It's a good thing we were along, though, because we can help.

Adosar did some more making of things and getting things. Because we were going in the air-ships, he was worried about what might happen if we fell off, so he got charms that would mean we'd fall off slowly if we fell (which is sort of a useful thing under those circumstances). He also gave Renn some boots that would do some of the same things, but since she can turn into a bird anyway, her falling out of the sky isn't awfully dangerous. (*throws boots at Renn* "Treat those carefully." - Adosar)

One of the other things he did was make the stone in the center of a fruit into something that could make a hole in the ground, which is a sort of useful thing to do. He gave that to Karas. Adosar makes strange jokes. ("The concept of calling a large hole in the ground the same as a stone in the center of a fruit is kind of ludicrous." - Adosar)

And so we got ready to go, and got on the airships, and started going north towards Deved'Era. And this was awfully interesting, with all of its wind and things. And we talked about magic and how the universe works and ways of going about things, the different sorts of ways that we looked at the world, with wizardy magic and land-magic and ancestor-magic or whatever it is that Karas does aside from people-magic.

    "Between us, everything is magic."
    "Yes!" -unison
"We have unanimity between the wizard and the druid!"
    - Karas, Renn/Adosar, Thiara

But as we were getting close, the dwarf who was holding onto the wheel that told the ship which way to go made this little noise and just froze in place. There wasn't anything there, until I concentrated and looked through Semtek's eyes and saw this sort of thing, all wisps and wiggly bits, that wasn't quite there. I could hit it with the dagger that hits things that aren't there, though.

The dwarf was dead. Scared to death. That didn't make anyone feel better about our mission.

When we got to Deved'Era and tied the boat up in the cavern where they tie boats up, it was like the place had been abandoned. There was enough dust to show tracks, but there weren't any tracks. We started to explore, sort of half-expecting monsters to jump at us or little wispy things that aren't there to try to scare us to death. We found a dwarf hiding in one of the rooms. She was sort of nervous and twitchy and didn't know what was going on in the city at all.

So we went down to the city. There were people guarding the gate. They tried to hold us up and things, and we explained that we were from Torvas'Era, and that we wanted to know why they hadn't been in touch. And they'd been guarding the gate for an awfully long time and nobody had come to ask them how they were doing or send someone else to do the job, and it was really weird. We persuaded them to take us to where we could talk to the council of the city and see what was going on.

"It's a matter of seeing new people. I can move around and see new people, or I can do that and the new people will come to me."
    - Karas

In one corner of the city there was this sort of globe of light. We asked what it was, and we got told that it was the wizard's tower and academy and stuff. They'd locked themselves in there when the plague had started to say they were trying to find a solution.

The city was a mess. The plague was mostly confined to one quarter, but it was hurting people pretty randomly. The wizards weren't talking to anyone. People were found in alleys, sort of . . . chewed on. And everyone felt too tired to work or do anything. We all felt it, but Karas talked to people, told them stories, cheered everyone up.

"Like a fine wine, Karas does best when stuffed in a barrel."
"I'm not sure that metaphor works."
    - Adosar, Thiara

So we thought about what we knew and what we wanted to say to the council and everything. And we knew that Satovar's prison was near here, and that Satovar was awfully depressed, so, well, if he was going to mess with people, he was going to make them depressed too. And plagues and stuff were a pretty good way of doing that. So we decided to tell them that we were going to investigate possibilities of magical influence and stuff, because that might do some good. ("As opposed to, say, 'There's a dark alar under your city'." - Adosar)

Renn decided to see if her magic was able to defeat the plague, and tried, but couldn't quite manage to do it. She and Adosar talked about working together to make something that would have healing magics in it. Adosar wanted to do a big soup cauldron and people who had soup from it would get better, and Renn wanted to do a cup because cups are more traditional. Adosar said that cups were smaller than cauldrons, though, so it would take longer to make enough to make people not sick. ("But then you don't get soup." - Adosar)

Eventually we got to see a counsellor for the city to talk to him about what was going on, and we started making plans.

Karas set up storytellings and things to try to cheer people up, and Renn and I went out hunting to see what was in the city. We found toads. With some sort of magic that made people fall asleep. And teeth.

We killed a lot of toads. That helped. And people suddenly had something they could do, and we got together toad-hunting parties and people were animated and alive doing that. Because they could make a difference, killing toads.

And we made plans to go exploring the catacombs under the city, with a local guide and everything.

Wait until you get a copy of Phantom Brave, by the same people who did Disgaea. ;)

"I can't hit it, it's not there!" -- Renn, very frustrated by the thing scaring people to death on the ship.
