Okay, there's a discussion on rasfc about the difference between a 'heroine' and a 'female hero', where a female hero is taken to be a hero-type who happens to be female, and a heroine is the character who runs around screaming, getting kidnapped, hiding from fights, and generally being treated in a macguffin-like way by the various bad guys.
I just realized: Gem is the heroine of the WIP.
Admittedly he doesn't scream or get kidnapped, and he does really want to play Manly Man with Dawn, who has like six points of strength on him (in D&D terms), which means that she gets all humorous at him rather a lot. And he doesn't scream and cringe in fights while the hero deals with it, but he hasn't exactly had the opportunity to do what he does do in fights, which is stand behind the front-line people and chuck rocks (he's rather good with a sling, but given that when the vampire attacked it was by surprise and he was the one with the limpet attached to his shoulder, and the mugger went for Dawn and she broke his hand and that was the end of it).
But he is theorized to be someone the vampire can track and hunt down, which means that (to the extent the vampire is the Bad Guy) the Bad Guy will be going for him possibly in order to get to Dawn but also possibly in order to finish a rather rudely interrupted lunch. And Gem does get distracted by shiny things (like Vos) and want to go haring off after them. And he does get enchanted, but I haven't written that bit yet. He probably gets into some other pickles later, too.
Now I need to figure out what roles Urn and Vos play. New modelling game! (I already know what they are in D&D terms; Dawn's a first level fighter, Gem's about a fourth level rogue, Urn's a low-level ranger, and Vos is a barbarian/druid dual class.)
I definitely need a writing icon. Will edit whenif I find one.
