Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, in previous entry or in email. :)
I made myself some chicken korma. Unfortunately, my whole cloves seem to have gone AWOL, so I had to use ground; this made the result, for some reason, grey. Very disconcerting, non-food-coloured. Still good food.
Been a while since I did a wordcount. I just finished section 110, which was 523 words, and I'm not sure how many words I've skipped reporting between last and this and am not going to dig through back entries to find out. Hah.
Talked with
teinedreugan about how to handle this section while we were doing grocery. Got it debugged enough to write; all good.
Talking to
brooksmoses tonight. Yay.
Still need to do lots of stuff. Arghle.

Re: Happy birthday!
I tend to post my wordcount regularly to sort of chronicle that I am making progress (and, for that matter, to motivate myself to keep going with the knowledge that Everyone Knows when I'm not).

If your novel was published, what would the blurb on the back cover say? (I'm curious about what kind of novel you're writing.)

Hrm. How's this for a blurb?
Diablo was once one of nine Families, Houses full of people gifted with abilities beyond the normal who are tasked to protect the common people from a wide array of predators called marauders. Now it is a broken shell of itself, politically divided and with most of its able-bodied murdered by an unthinkable alliance between the marauders and members of other Families. In the center of that divide is Mikel Vincetti, a recently-adopted member of Diablo, trapped in outsider status in part because of a strong resemblance to the man who murdered their kin. He feels he is only a liability to his partner, the recently-appointed reluctant Househead, as she tries to unify the Family and seek justice...
Perhaps more usefully, the genre's perhaps best called science fantasy; I've got an ecosystem evolved with psionic powers (telepathy, telekinesis, and the like). It's got a cast of dozens; political intrigue and occasional bits of violence including several assassination attempts; the misguided and the traitorous; people of miscellaneous intentions, good, bad, and other; the decidedly lumpy development of a love story involving someone with the self-esteem of a frog; mysterious people with mysterious motivations; also occasional moments of extreme whimsy because my tongue got stuck in my cheek in fourth grade (they said it would stick that way if I kept making that face, and I never believed them).
It's a sequel to something that's currently sitting in a slushpile; I think it stands alone just fine, really. My first reader (my partner

... for some reason, I'm now inordinately tempted to erase my actual birthday and put the date farthest from - my polar opposite Unbirthday. Yes, I am easily amused. We knew that. ;)

I was actually curious to see whether it would pop up on your list even though I have it hidey. ;)
And those of us who are easily amused have more fun!
