    It's the tenth of January
And I still ain't had no sleep
She comes waltzing in the nighttime
    Made of wings
She is dressed up like a bandit
    With a hundred sparkling rings
Looking for my company to keep
    Coming closer to me
    She doesn't say a word
In the shadow of the carved rock tower
Where the sounds of the night
Were the only things we heard
    In my darkest hour . . .

Purity always comes as a shock, the cold water a part of the cleansing, snapping me straight, cleansing away the parts that are forced crooked. Purify me, make me true.

Tonight the sky is dark blue; the moon is bright and clear and full, and the sky is marbled with loose wisps of cloud, making strands of gossamer and pockets of ink. The sight catches me and holds me, and I marble the air of the room upstairs with gossamer coils of incense.

I prayed to Heru and I prayed to Djehwty, and I prayed -- her hands are holding up the skies as I hid my opened eyes -- and it is luminous out there, but . . .

. . . gods, gods, I still ain't had no sleep . . .

Once I knew the luminous darkness, and I was secure there.

Purify me, make me right.
iTunes just followed the Hallelujah Chorus with Tessie. You know, with bagpipes.

I love life.

And now, because [livejournal.com profile] elfwreck tagged me, and it's funny that she did so:

The 10 fictional characters I'd shag/that I fancy/whatever meme thingy.

10. Gilbert Blythe (Anne of Green Gables). Required token of younger days, really.
9. Khym Mahn (Chanur series). Partly because I had to have a Cherryh character, just on principle. Partly because -- he had the strength to defy tradition and live, partly for the sake of the wife he hardly ever saw. Pulling sticks. And anyway, being a not-Hilfy is entertaining all of itself.
8. Jin (from House of Flying Daggers). Actually, mostly I lust after his outfit. But the process of getting him out of it has its other bennies.
7. Buliwyf (13th Warrior). He's, like, the personified self-image of an old boyfriend.
6. The real Emma Peel (played by Dianna Rigg) (The Avengers). Not that I fancy women in general, but . . . still. Emma Peel.
5. Jarod (The Pretender). I actually find the capacity to morph into other selves, completely constituted, a fascinating process. And competence is always an attractor.
4. Sam Vimes (Discworld). Ahh, dark sarcasm and tightly-wound focus, finely tuned to hair trigger and sometimes a touch beyond.
3. Benedick (Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing). Not that I express affection by bickering or anything like that.
2. Tyr Anasazi (Andromeda). My, he's pretty. In a vicious, effective, nihilistic sort of way. But what a gorgeous voice. Mmmm.
1. I'm afraid, though, that my favorite is one of mine, and thus nobody's liable to meet him unless it gets published (aside from my first-readers, heh). Mikel, secondary protagonist of The Devil's Dance, narrator and primary protagonist of The Devil's Due. There's something about the combination of stunning competence, a scholarly bent, and complete emotional ineptness that hits my "engineer" buttons. :P

Not going to tag anyone specific. Do it if you find it as funny to do as I did.
Me: . . . okay, that's an odd question. I'll have to ask [livejournal.com profile] anu3bis [if he comes to games].
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: what is?
Me: Can you get cheese in a kosher deli?
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: That is a weird question. Hmm. I'd expect so, they'd just have to keep them separate.
Me: But you can't put cheese on your sandwich!
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: Okay, good point. Hmm.
Me: Except if someone wanted a cheese sandwich.
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: Right.
Me: But someone might want, like, a pound of kosher cheese.
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: Right.
Me: You see why I have to know!
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: Yes, yes I do.
Me: These are the critical questions of our time!
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: . . . if you say so.
Me: . . . I also have to write this conversation down for Livejournal.
