Pondering getting back into the SCA again. Not sure exactly what provoked that, aside from, perhaps, a feeling that I'm hatching. (And taking my time about it, too.) Peep, peep.

Spent some time dithering about what period and region to work with; I think I'm going to wind up doing Piast Dynasty-era Polish persona. (Let's just narrow this down to a particular four hundred years, and work from there, hey?) I've got resources for period food in that era, which would be useful for a female persona; I'm also pretty sure that The Bathhouse at Midnight's information about superstitions and magical practices is more or less generalisable across Slavic cultures. (And the book itself is a lethal weapon at twenty paces, either thrown or read from.) This is also the period where the conversion to Christianity was going in, so my research into dwojwierny practices and such continues to have use.

(And motivating myself to actually do things by combining obsessions = good.)

Garb resources I've been able to find so far have been Russian. But nonetheless quite shiny. Continuing to peer.

Have also discovered, in only very loosely related thoughts, that somewhere in my various computer brain transplants, upgraded web browsers, and the like, I have lost all my very spiffy heraldry links. Sigh. ([livejournal.com profile] jenett, did I get those from you? [livejournal.com profile] keshwyn, do you have suggestions? Anyone else?)

Gaming icon close enough.

Remind me what species of heraldry links they were, and I will probably have ideas? (I'm thinking they may have been names, in which case I know where to look for replacement info.)

Re:

You want colors on metals and metals on colors. Metals are yellow and white, colors are red, black, green, blue, and occasionally purple. Furs (ermine and martin) make my head hurt.

Don't have links, but that much I do recall.

Off-topic, can you email/post/private post me your birthday? I came up with this REALLY cool birthday present idea for you, only I realized I have no idea when your birthday is. *sheepish look* (: (: (: (:

Sable is a fur. You're right. I don't know where I got martin from. *shakes head* I haven't been doing SCA in way too long.

Present will have to be late ... it will take some time to prepare. (: But there will be present. (:

*giggles* Fear if you want. I am actually really looking forward to it ... I haven't had a project like this in a while. *bounces*

Funny, I've been thinking about getting into the SCA. Made a stab at it once or twice before, never quite did. Hmm. I'm surrounded by far too many mundanes these days, it's making me want to bite somebody's fingers off.

I seem to recall that www.sca.org had a fairly extensive list of pages/links on heraldry.
