Still not my best photography, but better than many. The piece isn't painted yet, but I thought I'd show it off anyway.

This one has a title; it's called Anpw and the Orphan. I actually think the feel of it represents how He presents Himself to me, even. (The blodge on His right knee is His ankh, which He put down.) For all the figure's untraditionality, I did pay attention to standard iconography; the child is shaved except for his sidelock.

Anpw (Anubis) is best known as a god of enbalming and the afterlife these days; those aren't his sole domains -- He is also patron of orphans, among others. The version of the myth that explains His patronage of orphans runs something like this (note that there are a number of origin myths for Anpw; His father has been variously given as Ra, Set, and Asar (Osiris), and His mother as Nebet-Het (Nepthys) or Aset (Isis)):
Nebet-Het wanted a child; however, her husband Set was infertile. She got pregnant by her brother Asar, however, when her son was born, she gave him up -- either for fear of what might happen when Set found him and got angry through recognition that this was not his son, or because the child did not have any of the fire that had drawn her to her husband in the first place.
In any case, Anpw did not have his natural parents; he was adopted and raised by Aset. Because of this, he has always had a soft spot for those who do not have their parents, and they are under his protection.

Had a dream involving all sorts of Kemetic foo that you were in the other night, by the way. Not sure where all of that came from. :)

It doesn't have the same sort of satisfaction as working with clay clay, though, which is a shame; I'm not sure Khnemu is entirely certain what He thinks of this newfangled stuff just yet. ;)
