So I spent a while rereading bits of The Devil's Dance so's to be sure I'm making reference to them correctly. My thoughts are: I want to rewrite this at some point, and remove some significant fraction of the adverbs.

I do like Jaci. I mean, how many characters would say things like "I suppose it always seemed better to me to be in a situation where my difficulties could be resolved by throwing myself out a window."? I shall have to work that back in somehow, given its context.

Spent three hours staring at this scene and trying to figure out how it begins. I know how it goes . . . .

(Got distracted by a website full of Netjeru, too, which doesn't help the progress thing.)

I want a word like onomatopoeia for words that look like they mean. Like 'awkward'. What an awkward-looking word.

And I'm going to stop now, because I'm not going to try to write liturgy at three-thirty in the morning; it's all coming out doggerel. 386 words.
