jenett and I talk gaming. Relevant: some number of years ago, we played several games that included Changeling: the Dreaming as a component.


Me: I am entertained by how much more actively benevolent Isobel is than the boys, but of course that's why Briseis wants her in her pocket.
Jenett: Well, yes. And Isobel, still at "I don't think of myself as actively benevolent!"
Me: Isobel actively wants to find people to help! Thomas will help people he notices but will fart around with the guitar and tinker by preference, left to his own devices. Danny will actively help people, but occasionally vindictively.
Jenett: Danny is a Boggan [1] with his own definitions of helping.

Me: Like, one of Danny's actual moods in life is "If some asshole wasn't making trouble I'd be playing the fiddle/having sex with Ezra/learning martial magic right now, and I'm going to take that out on the asshole".
Jenett: Isobel thinks, for the record, that Thomas would probably be happier to settle into having something to do as well as playing guitar, but there's no rush.
Jenett: Well, yes.
Me: ... he is kind of hilariously warrior-boggany isn't he.
Jenett: He is.
Me: I think he's *actually* closer to being a satyr in raw mapping but I can roll with satyr/boggan cross.
Jenett: I mean, I have a fondness for that thing. [2]
Me: Gee!
Me: But he's got the satyr music thing, moodswings, and passion. [3]
Jenett: I was just being internally amused that my first ever MUSHing (MUCKing technically, but who's counting a code base?) was the Fairy Godmother.
Jenett: He really does.
Me: Hah
Me: Danny is a pooka [4] turned inside out.
Jenett: Fair!
Jenett: If he ever comes in kicking a turnip, I reserve the right to lose it loudly for several minutes. [6]
Me: I do not think we are likely to encounter a situation in which his vindictiveness would be directed at root vegetables.
Jenett: Probably not. But the way our story lines go, it is not outside the question.
Me: I would quote this conversation somewhere but I don't think it would make sense to fucking ANYONE.
Jenett heeee.
Jenett: keshwyn.
Me: I may put it in DW anyway.
Jenett: I mean, you could give the backstory.
Me: I could. [7]

[1] In C:tD boggans are basically the sort of fairy who are hobbity house elves. They Help.
[2] Jenett at one point played a satyr who married a boggan.

[4] Animal shapeshifting fairies who only speak lies. As opposed to Danny, who is a shapeshifter who only tells the truth. [5]
[5] Techniques for writing their dialogue can actually be very similar.
[6] At one point my pooka character encountered an antagonist who was trying to kidnap her daughter. She, being by that point rather a warrior-sorceress, turned the offending enemy into a turnip, and was later seen kicking said turnip around rather viciously.
"Why are you kicking that turnip, Fionn?"
"It tried to kidnap me daughter!"
"... was it a turnip at the time?"
"What do you think?"
