Particularly when something comes up on random shuffle that is exactly him.

    I wonder where I'm going
    And where I belong
What this plastic world can offer me—
    The only truth I understand
    Is that within my song
And in the smoke-filled pictures that I see—

Nearly to the end of my long run of "too much week in my week, starting with too much weekend in my weekend" as noted before ("no more fun, mommy, no more fun"). ER had two days off school to recover from the heat exhaustion - it would've been just one but she threw up yesterday morning, and spent the day basically completely not ill but of course we couldn't send her to school under the circumstances so she got a gleeful excess of screen time.

I have just attempted to explain the Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May to people who did not have context. Also I have remembered to put it in my calendar of religious observances rather than just depending on seeing the internet tell me that it's that time again.

But anyway. Back to my catboy.

I am fascinated by the emotional undercurrents of the current arc, in which Danny is alternating between reacting like he's in a horror movie and reacting like he's in a romance novel. It is very "these two subgenres are all about getting you in the feels," really. But we're at "after dealing with the horror movie Danny crawls into his crush's bed in catshape and Does Not Have A Panic Attack" and "after explaining the state of horror movie to his crush, they manage to escalate their relationship to 'hugs' and even 'snuggles' due to his crush's 'how furious you are about this situation sure makes me feel a thing' reaction".

Anyway the horror movie portion is that there's someone out there who is stealing the music/magic out of the souls of fairy bards for Purposes Unknown, which gives Danny an existential anxiety. He managed to keep someone from getting drained, but the other victims are, unless we recover the stolen bits, welp. As Danny said, "I feel like I fiddled the devil for a man's soul and now I've got to go fight the fucking devil."

Fortunately(?) Danny is mad at the world in many regards and willing to fight god about it, so finding this bad guy - dubbed 'the fucker' at this point - and taking "Meddle not in the affairs of bards, for your name is silly and scans to Greensleeves" to eleven is the ongoing goal. Various shenanigans brought us to The Crime Scene and trying to figure out what we could about the fucker while our magical tracker tried to figure out where to go next to hopefully end the problem and recover the stolen soulbits.

Our investigations were interrupted, of course, because that's how things go; in this case interrupted by the Terrifying Winter Witch fairy sorceress who hates the family of one of the members of the party and decided to accuse him of being the fucker when she found him at The Crime Scene. Attempts to get her to calm down and have a conversation did not, initially succeed.

So Danny turned into a bear.

He didn't mean to turn into a bear, precisely - he was trying to cast a 'stop it' spell at the time - but given the existence of bear he is absolutely going to Do Bear Things, which in this case involved interposing himself between the sorceress and Thomas and roaring in her face. (He informs me that the bear wanted to just snap her spine because that is what one does with a threat when one is a bear, but the man managed to stick to just threat posture because fairly certain that actually stomping the sorceress would not work well for anyone, particularly after the sorceress backhanded the third party member across the room.)

She winds up to do some sort of magic, the bear is basically at "I am going to get a faceful of doom bees, this is going to hurt, though possibly not for long in the grand scheme of things (if it's fatal)" and not backing down, and then Ezra pops out of effective invisibility with a blade at her throat and says, "Don't," thus preventing whatever horrible fate happens to bears that get in the way of furious winter witches.

Then she was willing to ... well, not talk, not even really listen, but stop screaming long enough to decide that the better part of valor was not getting run through by a fox-fae who was absolutely out of fucks and depart.

Danny is of the opinion that bears contain a lot of adrenaline.

The question of whether, when he regains the power of human speech, he will mutter, "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, because I AM A FUCKING BEAR", remains open; we broke session right about there. :}

So one of the things that [personal profile] jenett and I have done for a long time is screw around with astrology to figure out when various characters' birthdays are. Basically doing 'once we have enough sense of the personality to pick out a sun/moon/rising let's find out when that was a thing'.

And after that sequence, and combined with Danny's Spring tendencies, I finally hit "boy could not be any more Aries if he tried" and "... how much does he have in Aries?" and proceeded to figure out when his birthday was.

And so now I have notes and they amuse me. (Pulled from AlwaysAstrology because I don't wanna poke at the astroclick in astro.com in detail right now.)

Sun in Aries: "natural born leader", "may appear aggressive and restless", "a bit headstrong and incredibly argumentative", "thrive on action", "can be very intellectual and objective, but in some situations they may appear to be extreme", "impulsiveness can lead to difficulties", "loves to socialize", "enjoy people who challenge them intellectually or offer something in the way of competition", "born extroverts", "personality is not subtle", "quick to rise to temper, but they also forgive easily", "honest to a fault", "can be a bit self-absorbed, but can also be very generous", "will jump to someone's aid quickly without a thought for themselves" (BEAR), "rarely avoids confrontation" (other stereotypes that don't apply to him: "easily offended", "affinity for mechanical things")

Moon in Sagittarius: "happy-go-lucky and free-spirited as long as they aren't cooped up", "optimistic and cheerful", "abhor routine" (though he is responsible about his shift playing at the Market), "feel the need to escape", "simply believe that everything will work out for the best", "like to play it by ear", "very adaptable when the need arises", "idealistic and romantic", "don't look before they leap", "impatient", "too candid" (which is complex because he's also a secretive little bugger and he does have tact), "creative and talented", "may appear independent"/"may seem irresponsible" duality, "extreme highs and lows", "highly driven", "love to learn", "always searching for something", "natural adventurers", "impulsive and enthusiastic", "sharing passions", "not materialistic", "champion of justice"

Gemini rising: "loves to learn", "curious", "always on the lookout for something that will help them socially", "talent with words" but can get hung up on "intellectual puzzles" over people, "analyze everything", "make sense of what is happening around them", "witty and charming", "easily distracted" (heh mostly by soundtrack), "can appear differently to different people", "multi-tasking", "does not like schedules", "thrive in chaos", "natural social butterfly", "do not allow too many people to get truly close to them", "like their space and freedom", "understand their partners may like a little space as well", "may end up being a "jack of all trades, master of none""

So that's what I decided to work with for him, and then I rummaged through years (since I only had a rough age for him of 'fortyish'), and found one where the moon was late in the sign (though not late enough to get him Aries/Taurus cusp, which is also profoundly hilarious and I wanted to try) and the other planets were maximally funny. (And he only has two planets in Aries... and one juuuuuust over the line, so sort of cuspy.) He's older than I'd thought he was but that's fine. Maximally funny is important.

Mercury in Pisces (cusp Aries, notes follow): "gentle in communications", "almost poetic", "not detail oriented, instead they are caught up with feelings, emotions and moods around them" (but wait), "great listener", "can be moody", "unpredictable", "indirect and dreamy", "take in so much information that they can't remain with a single opinion for long", "prefer to follow their intuition", "picks up every subtle sign in their environment", "often indirect in communications", "artistically inclined", "may be psychic", "natural idealism", etc. A lot of dreamy, disorganised shyness but Mercury in Aries adds stuff like "quick thinking", "candid and direct", "take what they want and dismiss anything they feel may be irrelevant", "innocent charm", "mentally agile", "will do anything to win an argument"...

Venus in Pisces: "dreamy, soft-hearted charmer", "flirt attractively", "playful with a slight moodiness", "romantic", "prefer to play [relationships] by ear", "like to save people", "likes romance and tenderness", "hard for them to settle down", "will go out of their way for a friend or anyone in need" (not at all correct, meanwhile: "attracted to those who need help"- Danny is very clear that Ezra's hotness is partly that Ezra is Very Dangerous, "stretch the truth a bit" is not actually possible for him)

Mars in Aries: "impulsive", "anger flares quickly but doesn't last too long", "spontaneous", "may work best on their own", "daring and courageous", "can lack discipline and patience", "passionate in their goals", "not particularly affectionate and may be a bit selfish, but they are very energetic and playful" mostly parses to me at the moment as hilarious in animal forms, "will give their all until they have no more to give", "strong libido" (I have a lot of "Danny, I am ace and you are a lot" conversations with this boy), "like to take risks in relationships"

Jupiter in Cancer (on the Leo line): "attracts good luck when they are charitable, sympathetic and comforting", "has a gift at making people feel cared for", "Whatever they turn their hand to grows or turns out well", "ambitious", "led by intuition and emotions", "excellent at healing and caregiving", "excellent memory", "may need some help overcoming moodiness", "usually sociable and friendly", aahahahahhahah "don't really hit their stride until they reach middle age"; moderated with Leo "attracts luck when they are generous and inspire others around them", "prosper when they can be creative", "do best when taking calculated risks confidently", "shine when they are the center of attention"....

And to round out the classical planets with something that isn't flighty, bombastic, impulsive, or dreamy, we have Saturn in Virgo, vigorously struggling upstream to make all that not a complete disaster of a total chaos muppet: "practical and a hard worker", "good at researching, strategizing and record-keeping", "cautious and conservative, planning well for the future", "shuns the limelight", "routine and order are important components in their lives", "very responsible and may have talents at repairing things", "precision and accuracy will be prized in any field that requires detailed work", "very observant", "capable of abstaining from many things in order to reach their goals"...

Some nice tensions between the watery stuff and the fire stuff, and that one poor abandoned Earth just hanging out going, "... okay then...." There's also a water trine mostly on the cusps with fire...
