Went in today to get an IUD installed.

This did not work.

You see, giving birth to a nearly nine pound baby did a real number on my cervix. It tore.

Apparently, from the narration I got from the nurse today, it tore kind of impressively.

Which means that it's healed up with scar tissue and the like.

Which means that it's tightly wound in that 'no, you may not poke at me' kind of way, leading to an inability to even get the sound in to figure out how deep my uterus goes.

So I have a prescription for a cervical dilator (insert this pill and hope it dissolves enough to accomplish something) and an appointment for Tuesday morning to try this again only with less failure.

Sigh.

KJ's pediatrician appointment went well, though. She continues to be in fantastic health.

...torn...cervix...! *ow ow ow ow cringe*

sorry. IUD insertion is painful enough without added trauma and excitement. sorry :(

I suspect by comparison to torn cervices, an IUD insertion will be a piece of cake... if it dilates.

yeah, that was a two-part "agh", one to the concept of a torn cervix (owowow) and one to "man, the whole IUD thing is enough of a pain without poking at scar tissue and having to go back in" (though i can't imagine that trying and failing a sounding was fun, even if you have tearing cervix to compare it to.)

[livejournal.com profile] rosefox got one of those "pills" when she had her latest IUD put in. I hope it helps.

Aaagh. Glad that KJ is doing well, but wow, my sympathy, aagh. Best wishes for round two.

Not fun. I tore on my last delivery...since I was on my own with no doc or anyone to do a managed episiotomy (mangled spelling likely). But when the doc did arrive he simply sewed me up.

I do hope that dialation capsule helps, my cervix has always been too cranky to even consider an IUD. In any case, I am still singing paeans of joy for no longer being fertile or needing such devices!

Ooh, let us know how that goes - you probly don't remember that my coil insertion was halted in spite of happy pills because I spasmed like billyo but I might suggest a dilation pill as well as the rest next time. I like the notion of a coil.

Ouch! I hope that the next attempt at IUD insertion goes better. To be honest, I never got on very well with them. My uterus managed to expell two of them and after that I gave up and used other methods.

Having no experience with the topic, I'll just be over here figuring out how to hold my cervix. Ow.

Eeesh. And IUD insertions are not a walk in the park at the best of times. Good luck with the dilation!

A menstrual cup may be of some use here.
