It's not enough to be pissed off about Prop 8, okay? Pay attention to the Day of Remembrance, too.

Dilek İnce, killed with a shotgun.
Duanna Johnson, dead after going public about police brutality.
Aimee Wilcoxson, who the police claim was a suicide.

Names all from the front page of Questioning Transphobia.

I'm hoping that, when 8 is repealed (whether that's by CASC ruling or another amendment removing this one in two years), it'll help fight transphobia, or at least give a solid tool in that battle: there will no longer be a valid claim, "of course it mattered to me what sex/gender/etc the person was! I had to know if this romance could turn into a marriage!"

If marriage is "two people devoted to sharing their lives," rather than "a person of each of two binary genders sharing their lives," transphobia is shown to be an irrational singular neurosis, rather than "a natural reaction to the facts."

I hope.

More of the entire spectrum of marginalizing anyone who "colors" outside the lines. I have to admit, sometimes public gatherings like this do sound like someone is trying to pretty them up enough for them to qualify as sunshine enema candidates....so sorry this year's Day of Remembrance seems headed that way.
