I'm not involved in this combat, so I'm writing another summary. ;) Well, and finishing it at home after session. At some point there will be non-D&D content, I'm sure.

I went to the mage tower and listened at windows and watched things for a while, but I didn't really learn anything interesting. Still, it was good to be skulking again.

So Adosar and I went to the tower together with me as his guardian looking person like we've done before. I spent a lot of time looking tall, which is pretty easy to do around dwarves. It's harder to look imposing because they're a lot sturdier than I am, though, so I had to settle for just being tall.

We got a guide to bring us up to where people were meeting to try to figure out what to do next, and we wound up discussing things with a senior mage there named Orldvara. Adosar started talking to her about what was going on, and I was very careful about looking blank and managed to pull it off even. (Session Quote: "If there's anything you don't want her to know, speak in dwarvish." - Adosar) We got up to see the Archmage eventually, and he was lying in his room just staring at the ceiling and he wasn't there at all. I mean, he was there, but he wasn't actually there, and nobody could figure out how to fix him. He'd been working on getting the tower to get some sort of spell that would seal off the city from the rest of the world.

I went out and spent some time pondering what was wrong with him. Eventually I had a dream, of having headaches and everything and all of a sudden seeing some kind of thing laughing in my face and then getting stuck in the back of my head, somewhere I couldn't see. Which was useful.

What was wrong with the Archmage was that his entire personality had been broken and taken away. Renn and Adosar got into a long conversation about making stronger restoring magics than the ones she knows and figuring out how to fix him. Eventually they came up with a theory about a new magic that Adosar could make, but we weren't sure if it would work.

So they asked me.

    "Thiara! Would it work!"
    - Renn

And I thought about it and told them that an attempt made in good faith would succeed. I don't know how I know these things.

    "We've made the gamemaster smirk."
    - me

So we went up to try to fix the Archmage, and tried Renn's spell, and that didn't work, it wasn't strong enough, but we tried, and Orldvara looked at us funny.

"I let her think! I have practice in letting dwarves think."
"You could take skill points in 'letting dwarves think'."
-[livejournal.com profile] keshwyn, [livejournal.com profile] jikharra

So then Adosar tried his magic, and it was strange, several words and the world seemed to pause in reaction. And then the Archmage blinked a few times. And he sat up.

Eventually we sorted out that some sort of creature from elsewhere had taken control of his head and was using the wizards to close up the city to make some sort of breeding nest. That was awfully no good.

Adosar and Orldvara had some interesting conversations while we tried to figure out what to do with the head things.

"How is it that a wizard of your . . . youthfulness has mastered the High Magics."
"(Because you've been wandering around cacking gods.)"
"You know, I have had many wizards /tell/ me why I have this, and others deny that I had this, but you are one of the first who -asked-."
    - Orldvara, Thiara, Adosar

We spent a while sorting out who his allies were to see if any of them had been stuffed in a sack too. Some people had left the tower and gone out into the city, and we found where one lived and couldn't see him. Karas tried to talk us in, and eventually the people from the tower went in and went upstairs and there was a fight and he came out on a sling with his eyes open and staring at the ceiling.

Wren and Adosar spent some time figuring out how to make an item that would have the restorational magic that Adosar was making with the high magic so everyone would be less drained out by trying to make people better after they'd been stuffed in a sack or poisoned badly or any of the other things that we might need that sort of healing for.

Eventually we got things settled and the boat went back to Torvas'Era. And then we went back down into the Baronies to see how they were doing while we were away, and an ork came up to us and explained that he had heard about Karas and wished to accompany him in respect of his greatness. Or something sort of like that. (Session Quote: "He has an orkish Conscience." - Renn) So he joined us, and we started getting ready to join the halflings and go to see what had happened to Isen, the city on the edge of the Big Lake.
