List getting long again; truncating.
(Quote for which I remember no context: "He's very long-winded." --Shane, on the subject of the air elemental giving a message)
So we managed to get approval for going down into the crypts and catacombs under Deved'Era, and a local guide came along to help us get through them, someone who wasn't too badly affected by the bad feelings in the city. And so we started down.
We got into the crypts, into a big open room, and something told us to stop, that this wasn't our place. We tried to explain about getting under the city, and all of a sudden all of the dead bodies got up to try to fight with us. And . . . well, Adosar reacted sort of explosively, and we fought them all, and whatever it was that had made them move at us, and that was really, really disturbing.
They were put there to rest in honor, not to get thrown at people disrespectfully like that. That's just irritating. We made sure that it wouldn't happen again. Stupid shadow-things. Almost as bad as spiders.
The catacombs and crypts went deeper and deeper for a really long time, until we got to where they'd stopped building, where the walls were uneven and unfinished and stuff. And then we got to a doorway that was all full of shadows. And we went in.
It was dark, darker than shadows ought to be, like someone had gone and unwound all the possibilities of light there. And in the darkness was this thing, tall and narrow and made out of shadows, and it called up shadows to join it, and it told us that we could not have Satovar, that Satovar belonged to it. And we started to fight with it, and it was one nasty shadow. We told our guide to run away as we backed away from the room, and he ran, and we fought it a little more, and then Adosar grabbed everyone and farstepped back to the city.
We went down to the crypt entrance to see if our guide got out all right. He showed up a few hours later and looked a little tired, but he was okay, we'd held it long enough that he could escape. That was good to know.
We spent a few days preparing, with Adosar setting up his spells and everything, and working to deal with shadows. And then we farstepped back to the door and went in. And this time we beat it, and managed to get past that room into the corridor on the other side.
Which was a maze. I tracked on Satovar, and tried to use that to guide us through the maze, but we couldn't find it. Even when we figured out that the maze was probably some sort of mind-bending trick, something we couldn't get out of until we looked at it right, I couldn't do it, couldn't lean hard enough on the magic to pull threads.
Renn broke it, though. (Session Quote: "Water conquers stone." -- Renn)
We wound up in this big hall, huge and empty, with a chair at the far end, with someone sitting in it, and he just sort of sat there and stared at us. Karas went to talk to him, and he talked about pain and sorrow, and Karas tried to promise him peace. Then Adosar got grumpy, I guess, and threw a spell at him, and we fought him after that, and gave him peace I guess whether he really wanted it or not.
Poor Satovar. But at least his sadness wasn't going to kill Deved'Era anymore.
We went back up to the city. The wizard tower was still locked away in a bubble, and Adosar decided that he wanted to go see what was going on. He couldn't get through the bubble, but he could turn himself into a dwarf that wasn't there and go under where the bubble was, so that's how he got in. He went and talked to a wizard there.
Then he went in again, because they said they weren't coming out, even though we'd dealt with Satovar and there wasn't any magical influence left on the city, and the council wanted to meet with them and everything. He went into the big council room and found them arguing about whether or not they should go out or go to the council meeting or what, and it was sort of grumpy and everything. He brought the message from the council and gave it to one of the ones who was arguing the right side.
The Archmage got mad at him for showing up and interrupting or something. The Archmage didn't want to go talk to the council, he was on the wrong side. He tried to cast some form of the High Magic at Adosar, who countered it with his own High Magic. And then he tried another spell, and Adosar countered that the same way. Eventually he was subdued by the other mages, and Adosar stomped off and opened a hole in the wall to stomp out of and put a wall behind it so they wouldn't follow him and then he blew a hole in the bubble and came back.
The wizards were a little surprised.
So he came back to join Karas. He was pretty irritated, though maybe not as irritated as the time he blew a lightning into the ceiling of that building in the Baronies. (Session Quote: "*perky* So Adosar, how'd it go?" - Karas) And then they came back to tell us what had happened.
So we'd killed Satovar, but we had to figure out what was wrong with the Archmage to fix the city.

"*muttered* We can hear it for miles."

- "Adosar made a friend."
"The normal way or the dwarven way?"
"I didn't have time to make friends the dwarven way, the wall of force went up too quickly."
- Karas, Renn, Adosar
