I'm craving bunkbed. Or loft. Or something.

When I got to Wellesley and was rooming with the person with whom I only got along because I was always in and she was always out, we had bunks in the room, and I had the top one. And that was good. I like the heights, I feel secure there.

'Course, when I moved in with [livejournal.com profile] keshwyn in The Cave later, she already had the top bunk. ;)

When I was briefly involved with the fratboy at MIT, he had a loft bed.

And the occasional time I spent a night with [livejournal.com profile] diagonti, I seem to remember there being lofts involved, at least sometimes. Good old Random Hall.

Maybe when we have new house I'll build a loft bed in my office, so I have the underspace for workspace and filing, and have the high place to sleep on sometimes. Or to watch the world from, sprawled out like a cat on a branch.

And Lennon can use it to be Taller Than Everyone, the rest of the time, which should make him happy.

(Hm. Things have been making me think of Herw lately. Maybe my hawkish tendencies are manifesting again with little resonances of the Distant One, the One Above. Or maybe I'm just making patterns like humans do.)

Cohab House 2.0 is going to have a loft bed in my office. Convenient spot for [livejournal.com profile] wedgex to crash, makes room for my desk under it, etc.

I have a loft bed. The only problem I have with it is that it's hard to put reading material right in reach; I tend to wedge it in at the foot of the bed, between the frame and the mattress. Pens go on my windowsill.

The cats think it's the greatest thing ever. They'll bound up the ladder just so they can curl up where it smells of me and be Taller Than Everyone.

Only because my previous roommate was a goob. IIRC, I offered you the top bunk, you didn't want it. :) I wish you luck in your quest for a lofty perch.

If you've got room for an appropriately-tall bookshelf near it, bookshelf tops make good nightstands. I kept my alarm clock and my glasses and my reading material and my randoms on the corner of the bookshelf for several years in college.

The aphorism around here is "Cats like up".

My boyfriend tries to use this as a battle cry to cheer me on in climbing the very vertical Seattle hills (we used to live on one nicknamed Profanity Hill by early settlers, from the sounds those climbing it made).

My response is "Cats like palanquins".
