Why yes, we are gaming tomorrow, so I am feeling the pressure of being behind. How'd you guess?

(Some of this may have happened in the previous session. I'm so far behind I'm muddled.)

And then we were ready. And we had a plan.

We were pretty sure that the stone guardians or whatever they were were things Xenecal hadn't made, because that's not the sort of thing he does. But the sword Adosar made for me was good for breaking up golems, so if we broke one entirely, we wouldn't have to worry about there being another one there when we got back.

"Xenecal doesn't have the patience for that sort of work."
"So he has them on loan from Dareid or something."
    "They came with the apartment."

Adosar did all the preparatory magics that he does when we do this sort of thing. ("We are loaded for large, mechanical, flaming bear." -- me) Then he turned Karas into something interesting, a big serpent-bodied creature with wings that was mostly human people from the waist. That was sort of exciting, because apparently when he was in that shape Karas got more agitated about the existence of Alar and wanted to go charging off to fight them. Um, even more than he wants to do in general.

I made the tracking magic using the sword as the focus, and he picked me up and Adosar up, and Wren turned into a bird, and we did hiding magics and went around the towers of the fortress to figure out where Xenecal was. I wasn't sure where exactly he was in the tower, just that he was higher up than the bottom of it, so we aimed at the bottom of it.

The plan was that we'd push Adosar up against the tower, where he had the magics to hold on to the wall, and then he'd make a hole in and we'd go up and deal with Xenecal. So we started doing that. ("Slap the limpet dwarf on." --[livejournal.com profile] keshwyn) We figured we'd set off an alarm or something, but there wasn't anything we could do about that easily from the outside.

We got in. Wren flew in and Karas fit through the hole and I jumped through and around and Adosar climbed around the hole. It was a round room with a few renegades in it, so we fought them a little until one started running down the stairs. There was a clanging of the alarms going off and everything. Wren and Karas got to the foot of the stairs up and saw a sort of demon-man coming down the steps, and Adosar waved his hands and summoned stone all up in the stairs from downstairs so none of the giants or other renegades or kordaro could get up to get involved. Everything according to plan and all.

So Karas got into the stairs, and Wren rolled past the demon to the other side so she could fight from both sides. ("I recognise discernable anatomy when I see it, and this thing has discernable anatomy." -- Wren) The demon seemed a little surprised by Karas, and didn't want to stay there at all. ("I did not order the eel. Please bring that back and get me a new one." --[livejournal.com profile] jikharra, describing the response to Karas) He came down into the room, and Adosar tried to hit him with a banishing spell, but it didn't work.

Karas came back down out of the stairs ("I take a five-foot slither." --Shane) and the demon looked at him and everyone else and then dove out of the hole in the wall and flew off to one of the other towers.

And something was banging on the stone wall that Adosar had made in the stairwell, like they were planning on breaking it down.

And then we realised that the demon was Xenecal, shaped into a different body, and Karas chased him out, and I helped people climb the walls with my magic so they could chase him, and we all went back out the hole and started to improvise.

But he hit Wren with a dispelling magic and she started to fall and slide off the tower, so I went and cast the wall-climbing spell on her again so she'd stop, and she started being ready to fight again, and then the huge fire elementals from off the top of the towers came down and started to fight with us, and that sort of kept us busy while Karas was fighting Xenecal.

And then something happened, and there was a big noise, and then there was quiet. And there was chaos down in the courtyard of the fortress and everything.

"Oh my god, they killed Kenny?"
"Oh my Kenny, they killed god!"
    - [livejournal.com profile] keshwyn, me

And Karas made a spell to make himself look like Xenecal and carried us up to the top of one of the towers -- because the fire elementals had left and all -- and told the kordaro and renegades and giants that he would deal with the remains of the intruders and set them to fighting each other. And we hid there, and then we climbed into the tower and started going through the magical things before we jumped out again.

And we were worried about Karas and people getting killed, but Wren showed us a leaf she had and said that she could revive someone who was dead if she got there fast enough, which is a good thing to know how to do. Only she doesn't actually know how to do it, she just has a leaf.

"I can't cast it myself, and I only have the one."
"So nobody die all at once."
    - Renn, Thiara

And Adosar was doing a lot of thinking on the way back, because he said he was having ideas about the shape of the world and everything and magic and he wasn't sure how to make them work yet. So we talked about that a little. He knows so many interesting things.

"So complicated I don't understand all of it."
"Well, having complicated things to study always makes you happy."
    "I suppose that's so."
"And it's getting harder and harder to find complicated things."
"Our life is a complicated thing."
    "Yes. I'm studying it."
    - Adosar, Thiara, A, T, Renn, T

And eventually we decided that we didn't want to carry around the giant sword, so we left it with some people in case they might need something like that. Because they might, who knows? ("Whosoever shall lift this sword in time of need will be one bad motherfucker." -- Adosar) And then we talked about what we needed to do, and Adosar said there were some spells that he didn't know that he hoped that we could pick up when we got to the dwarven city to hold up our end of the bargain for the expedition like we promised. ("What spells don't you have. You're frigging Batman." --Shane)

So we went back to Torvas'Era.
