If you...
1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?
That's an interesting question. I'm not especially skilled at the genres of food that I particularly favor (such as Szechuan), and know that I couldn't manage to establish a niche in the Chinese food market.
I'd be tempted to do soups, actually; I can do a variety of those and they're pretty good. Maybe soups and breads, as is traditional for that market. There's only really the chain stuff around here that I know of, and not much of that.
2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
The small store that I'm intending to try starting up in a year or two will be doing pottery, mostly, with perhaps related angles into statuary and sculpture and in a different direction into jewelry. (Betcha I could make some nice pendants with PMC. Must stop craving the PMC. Even if I could make a sacred lotus with it, which is the pendant I want.) *suppresses self with canvas sack*
3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be?
The Devil's Dance, which is finished, I'd call science fantasy. The WIP, which is The Devil's Due, is same genre, or better be, since it's a sequel. (Psi stuff is no longer qualified for science fiction; on the other hand, it's genetically based, all through the biome, and has made a major difference to the tech curve. So, science fantasy.)
The Chosen is YA suburban fantasy. Like urban fantasy but with more minivans. (Actually, I don't think it has any minivans at all yet, but I'm still terribly scattered on how to do this one, it requires a different process from everything else I've ever written.)
The Night's Tale would be heroic quest fantasy if any of the characters were heroic. What it really is is a coming-of-age novel in disguise.
Otter's story, whatever it turns out to be called, is space opera.
The dubiously begun non-fiction is a pagan 101 book. I've dithered with writing in religion & spirituality before; I expect this project is better founded than past ones, but I also expect it'll take me at least two years to collect all the information I need.
(What do you mean, if I wrote a book?)
4. ...ran a school, what would you teach?
I don't know. Most of my knowledge is of the scattered miscellany variety. ("My brain is made of tar, and things stick to it." --James Davis Nicoll)
I might try to teach love of learning. That would be worth teaching.
The "Is it not nifty?!" principle.
5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
I don't know. I can't write music well; I've tried, and it doesn't come as easily to me as some other creative outlets, so I haven't developed the skills. (When I was a very small child and trying to compose for the piano, my parents said I was trying to do Wagner. By the time I figured out what Wagner sounded like, I'd gotten over my lugubrious dramatics phase. Maybe I should have stuck with it.)
But that leaves me with what I can perform. Which is mostly vocals; my piano was only recital quality, not concert quality, my drumming is still very weak, and my ability to get an actual noise out of the flute is as tenuous as it's ever been. Still no guitar or knowledge of how to work one (
erispope, we ought fix that), and my bagpipe is still just the practice pipe. Harrum.
