I am about 90% recovered from the cold that took out the junior kids for all of 36 hours, eight days later. Illness is tiresome.
Somewhere in the last few days I wrote a short story, and have done revisions after
brooksmoses did a readthrough, and then more revisions, and then tightening to bring the wordcount back down (while the prompt says they'll consider up to 5K, 5K was noted as a 'hard sell' so paring the story down to, uh, 4500...).
Got a perplexing rejection on "did not follow instructions" or something that mostly gives me massive anxiety but I should probably figure out WTF went wrong there (it may be Open Office for OSX fucking up emulating Microsoft .doc when read on Windows again, which I usually solve by sending .rtfs, but this place doesn't accept .rtfs, only .txts, and augh, really, it's just a fucking stressbucket nightmare and the form letter was not informative). It can't be that I failed to anonymise the document because I built the doc specifically for the submission, I think. Just. Argh. Bad form letter, no biscuit. Bad social anxiety, also no biscuit.
Various updates, office:
- the book boxes are unpacked, producing one small pile of books on the floor, a very full TBR shelf, and things largely put away.
- the Great Reshelvening got a little "ah fuckit" in the middle, but things are in fact on shelves now even if they won't stay there long term; further, the space on top of the bookshelves, which previously held several categories, is entirely empty and thus available for a) books b) art c) tchotchkes. I think I will move one shrineset up there (that was previously on a shelf that was taken down to put a bookcase where it was, so, y'know, consistently located)
- DHL continues the worst of the major shipping companies, and dropped my last piece for the Djehwty/Seshat/Ma'at shrine at the top of the driveway next to one of the little fluorescent 'children playing' warning dudes. Fortunately the mason spotted it and brought it down to me when he was heading out, and so I have a fully assembled shrine.
- working on processing out boxes and putting things away steadily so we can do the rest of it
- my damn chair cushion still hasn't shipped
Various updates, wall:
- we have re-re-re-reconfirmed our stone selection options and finalized a few things about sealants and so on
- all of the cementboard stuff is up on the house and at least half of it has been, as the mason terms it, mudded
- we may actually start putting rocks on the house tomorrow
