Hm. I'll ask teinedreugan if the camera has toggles for that -- I'm not terribly good with the thing. (It's digital.)
I also seem to have the problem of having, typically, a cluttered field of view, and the camera has a bad habit of deciding to pick the clutter to focus on rather than the object. The photo where I went to some effort to produce an uncrufted background came out a fair bit better, I think.
