On the subject of Dreamwidth

I have been thinking for a while about setting up something that would serve as something of a professional blog, where I could, in theory, aim people who wanted to see my professional content. Thus, Dreamwidth; I will be making certain posts here and having them cross over to LJ via the autoposting feature.

This means, in practical terms, that there will be posts on Dreamwidth and LJ about:
- serious writing issues and news
- major theological processing
- significant art progress, especially if I get my studio properly set up

So, basically, no content for now because I'm busy gestating.

Did you get a code, or do you still need one?

(And are you using the same username, or will you be, or what?)

I just don't see the point. I keep getting offered invites and it all seems redundant to me.

The point for me personally is that there's a community over there that goes all the way down to the metal, whereas on LJ I feel like the community can only go down so far and then it hits the commercial company run for a profit.

They're already doing a way better job making their code base a real open source project than LiveJournal ever has, they really mean the diversity statement, and they're putting a ton of effort into training new developers and helping people who want to fix things find the resources they need to make changes as opposed to just reporting problems and waiting for a paid employee to fix them.

This is just the stuff that interests me; it's not necessarily compelling to anyone else. Overall, speaking just for me personally, LJ feels like some web service that I use and pay for, whereas Dreamwidth feels like a project I support run by people who I respect and sometimes know.

I name-squatted over there, and poked around a bit. But I don't really see any *point* to it. I see your point about the semi-pro thing, and that's a very cool thing. I don't really *have* that. And all my friends are still here, for now.

So unless people actually start abandoning LJ in droves (imminent death of the net, film at 11) then I probably won't even bother to log in to DW very much.

Offtopic of the post, I wanted to apologize again if I was initially sounding snarky/bitchy/judgmental about furries. I didn't mean to come off that way, and it's hard to express tone or sincerity over the internet, so, yeah. And, congrats, again. :)
