Ongoing notes on a life, apples edition

My father arrived this afternoon for a short visit, with something like the usual collection of artifacts, including a lovely tropical fish mobile for the impending baby, and demands credit for his prescience as he was unaware that the parasite in question is currently referred to as "fishie". We (whole family) went out to dinner, and he was highly amused by whispercricket.

brooksmoses is a total epic sweetheart, and rendered me nigh speechless for a good fifteen, twenty minutes.

Things that need done: prodding more at the notes to see if they turn into something usefully writeable; bottle the ceremonial mead; ... probably flail a bit.

Meanwhile, checking wikipedia for something revealed that religious involvement in marriage in ordinary English law postdates the coronation of King Richard the Lionhearted, and thus has not been the case since time immemorial. I find this tremendously funny.


On a grimmer but still satisfactory note, the verdict came in on the Angie Zapata murder trial. Two hours deliberation. Guilty on all counts.


On a completely unrelated to anything note, my head hurts.

Mostly reiterating for the amusement of the rest of the world (as you've seen it), but I still think this would be the best baby mobile ever.

Unless I misremember, English legal memory only goes back as far as Richard's coronation, so if something dates from Richard's time, it is close enough to time immemorial not to matter. Richard's reign was only ten years; he was killed in 1199.

Exactly. And (as lilairen was explaining this to me), the church's involvement in marriage started some 11 years after his coronation, in 1200.

Yep. 'Time immemorial' comes from the death of Henry II/ascension of Richard I in 1189.
