House Stuff Making Me Punchy, Part Umpty-Lump

Today what I really want is a house where I can paint Pascal's Triangle in mod 8 on the wall of one of the rooms.

(I am not sure if this is more or less punchy than the box in the corner labelled 'Look! It's another box full of random books!')

Why mod 8?

Plain wall/white = 0
Black = 1
Red = 2
Orange = 3
Yellow = 4
Green = 5
Blue = 6
Violet = 7

I've been doing Pascal's Triangles in mod N = { number of pens/pencils I have +1 } since sixth grade, though to be fair mostly when bored in class so not so much lately.

That would probably produce results like 'Pascal's Triangle in mod {number of green crayons +1}' which is ... actually an interesting variation. Hmm.

I'm confused. How is it a pascal triangle? Or are you making a big-ass triangle, and doing that in colors?

I'm fucking around with doing a version in a paint program between packing stuff; I may if that gets done link later.

The way I always did it was something like blank paper is 0, black or pencil is 1. Draw the first three points by coloruing with pencil.

Then take the red pen (to keep the system described) and do black-red-black. Then black-orange-orange-black. Black-yellow-blue-yellow-black. And so on.

They are very pretty.

(I currently reside in a house which is turning shades of green. Maybe aqua sometime next week. We think it will look good when done.)

Wim suggests doing it in mod 4 and seeing how the results relate to the 4-color map theorem.

Yes, again, you make me feel almost sane. I'm not sure how to take that, though .. or who it may be insulting more. :D

And I think the problem would be if you labeled the box something like "Dangerous wisdom! To consume, open box and scream!"
