Small pleasures

Getting a Really Good Bagel for the first time in ages.

Eating the bagel while sitting on a bench in the shade and watching the hawks circle, molten-honey-coloured wings dancing in the sun.

Watching the children, earnest and enthusiastic, assist with grocery shopping, and trading smiles with their mothers.

Walking through land familiar to the bones through walking many, many times in the past.

Some of it barefoot in cool, occasionally slightly damp grass.

Getting home again and falling down after realising that one's in significantly worse physical condition than when one lived here and did this walk regularly. ;)

Where did you find it/them?

There's a place that does good bagels about a mile and a half or two miles from my father's house in Maryland. I walked up there today (it's near the grocery store, and I needed to buy mushrooms).
